Netflix now has MILLIONS more US subscribers than cable TV providers

• Since 2012, Netflix has gained more paid users, while cable has lost them
• In Q1 2017, cable companies had 48M subscribers and Netflix had 50.9M
• Milestone is the first time Netflix has surpassed cable providers in the US

In the battle for television subscribers, Netflix reigns supreme - and has overtaken cable firms for the first time.

A new report has found that Netflix doubled its US membership over the past five years and as a result, has surpassed cable providers in number of paid users - for the first time.

According to the analysis, America’s largest cable companies had 48 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2017, while Netflix held the top spot with 50.9 million.

NETFLIX ON THE RISE
It was discovered that in the first quarter of 2012 major cable providers lost 4 million subscribers, but during the same time period, Netflix had added 27 million.

And although cable had 52.60 million subscribers and Netflix had just 23.41, this quarter is when things started to take a turn.

In Q1 2013, Netflix had jumped up to 29.17 million paid users while cable fell to 51.04 million – and the pattern has continued since.

Now, the first quarter of this year, Netflix has pulled ahead of cable for the first time - the streaming platform has 50.9 million, while cable has 48 million,

ARE YOU NETFLIX CHEATING?
Netflix conducted a survey with 30,267 of its members to see how many of them are Netflix cheating.

Approximately 46 percent of couples are guilty of cheating.

Another 81 percent said they have cheated multiple times.

Not only is Netflix holding the top spot for subscribers, it was also found to create the most popular original series of any streaming platform. A report has found that nine out of the 10 most popular streaming originals were showed on Netflix
This included ‘House of Cards’, ‘Orange Is The New Black, 13 Reasons Why and Sens8.

However, Hulu was the only other streaming platform to make the list – ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ came in second.
