Exactly! And yes Effie, I read the fact that your post pertained to it's oringinal meaning instead of what people associate the word with today. So there's no reason to be dismissing any 'classes'.
..which is why a lot of people will/were offended by his shirt.. that one word..brings so much history and baggage with it.. probably more than any other word in the english language.. I'm just thankful I grew up at the point in history, that I did.. sure.. I went through racism..but I was never beaten because I was black (probably because I never hung out, in the neighborhood I was in. I know people who were beaten, for being black at the wrong place, by groups of white guys tho)...or chased in trucks ( my grandfather was, by KKK members ), or anything like that...
I seriously doubt there are many white people who would get their feelings hurt by being called a cracker. I enjoyed reading the story behind the word btw. I just thought white people were called crackers because of the somewhat similar colour. The swastika is still the symbol of a world wide "political" network, and though offensive to other people, it has a strong positive meaning to the followers. The only ones who are offended by Swastikas, are people who aren't Nazis! That in itself, should make it obvious that the symbol can't really be compared to the words "ni**er" or "cracker". (Then I haven't even gotten into the history of the organization... which just makes comparisons even more absurd- especially to the word "cracker"...) Can anyone please explain why young black Americans run around and call themself "ni**ers" anyway? Where's the pride in that? That's what the people who once owned you used to call you...So why on earth would even consider taking it into your mouths?
For the record I wasn't trying to offend anyone with the comparison. No harm, just thought I would bring it up.
What is worse is that Kelis was parading around wearing the same message on her clothing. How women are being treated in hip-hop culture is bad enough, for her to help promote something that distasteful and disgusting, well..... Queen Latifah and Salt n Pepa would never, ever do that kind of stunt, they are too smart and aware.
Pump your brakes shorty not all young African Americans do that, so you can stop the generalizing right now.
never had a black guy call me "n**ger" before.. now... n**ga... yeah.. as 2pac once defined it..loosely quoting anyway a nig*er is a black slave in chains... a n**ga is a black man, with a gold chain around his neck.. so...before we start saying black guys run around callin each other words, at least get the spelling right.. there is a big difference ....the only time a black guy would use n**ger, is if he was trying to imitate the way white people have used it against black people, to keep us down  nonetheless.. I usually don't run around calling black people n*gga..that's never really been my style.. It's like the Marines and the term "Jarhead." They may call each other that for shits and giggles, but if someone else says it to them, it's kind of offensive.
I never said ALL do... But there are at least some, even on this board, who does. (And whether you end it with -A or -ER doesn't really make all that much difference POJ). I've got several African friends, they would never say that word. I've got several gay friends as well (I'm PC as hell, even my oldest brother is gay), do you think any of them would run around and call them self "faggots" or something similar? Of course not!!! They got much more self respect than that! So why some African-Americans would use that word just makes no sense to me at all! How did you know I'm short btw?
i was going to try to explain it to her..break it down like you did and all.. but then I said "what the fuk is the point?"
It doesn't make sense cause.. You're not African-American, so you're always going to look at it differently. No matter how you try to think about it. I'm not saying you have to be African-American to understand but, if anyone would understand more than anyone else, it would be African Americans. Yet again, not all African americans agree it's "kosher". Some do though, as you stated. It doesn't bother me. People are going to say it regardless of whether I condone it or not. I'm not saying I condone it either, I'm just saying it doesn't bother me. (**prepared to be flamed for my post) Yet again, I'm not trying to offend anybody. Even the Africans that don't understand it because well, they're not african-americans. I am referring to the word 'nigga'.
In 2001 I was driving a truck on a job with my boy coming through Oklahoma heading west from Ohio. I stop at a denny's in OK. just as I come around the corner I see this cat smoking outside sporting some swaz tats and white power bullshit, so I make like a bee line for him cause at 6'3 252 and coming from a lifetime in martial arts/being an active fighter I was curious if he would want to say anything since he was wearing these marks of a warrior for his tribe, but he just let me get up on him real close and sniff him out without so much as a peep  anyhow my partner comes around the corner and sees this so he's like oh no not again, he yells out to me "Hey leave that nigga alone!" refering to the skinhead
lol... i was always taught to avoid fights, because you could seriously hurt someone.. on the other hand, you have some well-known MMA fighters, who are known to be part-time street fighters and don't give a sh*t  as for "leave that ni**a alone," i feel your boy on that one.. sometimes, when I see people of any race, doing some dumbshit, i'll say or think to myself "them n*g*as is crazy yo" ..as for driving trucks through different states..like oklahoma, and rolling up on places with skinheads and those kinds of tats.. that's freaky... I travel alone like the ghost rider mostly... I would hate to run up on one skinhead, because chances are, there are more skinheads around, just lookin for a "darkie" to dip on.. you had to be careful also... what if that white-power nut was carrying a gun?
I was raised by a career military officer, and given my first weapon (a rifle) on my eleventh b-day. I taught Choy-Li-Fut and Bok-Fu, which includes 36 different weapons, including knife fighting of many types. once I was up on him it was too late, I wear a blade. Usually heat is real close too. As far as looking for a fight, I'm not. I've been in too many, there is nothing left to prove. I also don't run from them, don't ever hide your views or feelings to shield yourself from pain or loss. If it looks like you'll lose- don't jump ship or run for cover- Duck, but don't run. Don't look for it, your right on that, but don't run from it. The guy had his wife/girlfriend and daughter with him, when I saw that I let it go and gave him a pass. He went and got them and got up out. Since he kept his mouth shut I felt no need to hurt him in front of his child you know? Eighteen years ago I got into it with some gang called TOS (thousand oaks skins) with two of my boys, and two van loads and a jetta full of them. They lost. Just remember the way of power is the unvarying way. To be able to win you are also vulnerable to lose.
...coming from a guy named "Sifu" who woulda guessed  I always thought about competiting in Tae Kwon Do, to keep myself active, along with other things I do.. the guy around here likes to have MMA fighters come in, and workout with his students, so that they don't just rely solely on solid TKD skills. He also likes to emphasize the difference between the way you would fight in a sport-setting, and the way you would fight on the street.. With work and the sorts, I just never really sunk my teeth into it, like i wanted to.. funny you would mention the part about carrying a blade tho.. one of my coworkers carries one... he's a short, skinny guy, and the area of the city we work in, isn't exactly the safest one.... I think he's been mugged (attempted anyway) before also..which explains why he carries one.. as for rumbling with gangs...these guys don't play that fighting shit here... they bust guns, real quick... which explains the high murder rate in this city
I live in LA - lotsa guns! We did bust on them, thats why they lost. I keep an Heckler & Koche .45 acp, a remington 870 express magnum 12 gauge, and a few hunting rifles for long range stuff. I got hollow point .45 rounds for my sidearm and I keep magnum nitro steel slugs in the gauge. Got my piece in a small belt, pant clip holster, and with my size you can't see it at all even though it's some high caliber shit, a .45 will de-limb you. I feel you on the guns, very dangerous - today the first SWAT member to die in the line of duty in LA is being put to rest, real good brother too  father, football coach, did a lot for kids in the communities he grew up in, laid down his life so no one else had to deal with some crazy fool. Fucked up what guns can do in a humans hand, humans are dangerous. Knowing how to defend yourself properly is a good skill to posses, and despite what people say we are not like animals - fighting is not instinctual. You must be taught, and train. I took TKD from a Korean war veteran 27 years ago and stuck with it for a few years, but it is intended as a competition form of fighting based on points. No slight to TKD practitioners, but it basically consists of eight high kicks. There are many more, but just as an optometrist specializes on the eyes, so does TKD on high kicks primarily. Another poular style is Jiu-Jitsu. We taught everything they teach and more in the way of grappling, we also teach 26 different kicks along with the weapons, hand fighting, hard and soft styles of combat. This is due to the fact that Choy Li Fut was developed by Chan Huen in 1836, and first tested in actual combat during the Boxer rebellion, where thousands of Choy Li Fut practitioners took part in the fighting against the British. I also fought in the Western Kick Boxing Federation in the early 90's, and fought Golden Gloves. I even boxed in college, that's why I went to school in Nevada. Mills Lane is one of our biggest almuni, you know the ref "Let's get it on" who refed the most championship bouts in the history of the pugilistic arts. He was also on the 1960 olympic boxing team that went to Rome, with his other more well known teammate Muhammad Ali.
You know I told my boy that Brock Lenar was going to lose, and he said "yeah, did you see the other guy? How much bigger Brock is than him? Look how swol he is." Yeah but just beingswol won't teach you how to fight, that guy he's fighting ain't NEVER fought with a script, yeah wwf is physical but roids won't get you over the hump when it comes to ring fighting, just ask Fernando Vargas, he told me over by the Beverly center "You Know I'll be back!"
I know about Mills Lane I used to watch his show.. Judge Mills Lane.. In the beginning of the show, they would show him when he was a young fighter.. he would be that guy, who talked shit to you on the show, for doing something idiotic that got you on there in the first place, and back it up after it was over as for SWAT.. I only seen them in person once (felt sorry for whomever made the police call in SWAT) .. LAPDs SWAT gets most of the fame ( they have games featuring them).. I guess because they're used so often.. vegas's SWAT gets heavy use also.. Remember watching a show about them, going out on calls "daily," on average around here..lots of problems get solved with a 9mm, handcuffs, and the occasional smacking with a nightstick.. we have had our share of officers, banged in the line of duty tho.. I know they offer cops good money starting off here...and once upon a time, I thought about becoming one.....but that job is no joke
