"Tae Kwon Do" by General Choi Hong Hi (The Fifteen Volume Set)

Note: Gave me a greater appreaciation of this korean martial art.

"Understanding Supercomputing" by the Editors of Scientific American

Note: I have a better understanding that these machines will change the world as we now know it. These engines of the information age will radically change the nature of work. I intend to know all I can about them and stay competitive in the world of work.

"Muay Thai: The Most Destinguished Art of Fighting" by Panya Kraitus and Dr. Pikisuk Kraitus.

Note: The best kickboxing book I have read and I have almost a dozen.

The Civil War: A Concise History - Louis P. Masur

So much of American culture and history is tied into this one event that no one who lives here can afford to ignore the weight of its occurrence and repercussions.

Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life - Ice-T

An entertaining read. Ice tends to get overlooked in comparison to the legacy of NWA, but he was equally important during those early years of west coast rap.

Santiago: A Myth of the Far Future - Mike Resnick

    A fun space western.

Y: The Last Man - Brian K. Vaughan

Usually not one for comics or graphic novels, but this was outstanding. The premise is that a cataclysmic event destroys the entire male population of Earth except for one young man, then explores how certain variables such as war, racism, and political espionage would change or remain in a world dominated by women. Read it.

I'll have to find copies and re-read them.

They are definitely worth re-reading. I'm glad I bought a copy instead of looking for it at the library. Of course the library here probably wouldn't have it anyway. I've been in a Clive Barker mood lately & I got several while I was shopping. I also found a couple of H. P. Lovecraft's books.

I've been doing a sick amount of reading lately, so I'll share everything that I've read in the last week:

    Based on 5 star ratings.

Water for Elephants Sara Gruen- **** This was a really great book. I didn't see the movie, but the book was a quick read. It was actually a book that came out of the annual NaNoWriMo competition, if you know what that is. Kind of neat. :)

The Slave Across the Street Theresa L. Flores, Peggy Sue Wells- ** I expected more. It just wasn't that awesome.

More Than Rice: A journey through the underworld of human trafficking Pamala Chestnut- *** A pretty decent read. Very interesting.

The Hunger Games Trilogy Suzanne Collins- **** I'd have to say these were some of my favorite books in awhile. The movie for the first book comes out next year, but do yourself a favor and read them before the movie. You will not regret it in the least!

Burned Alive: A Victim of the Law of Men Souad; Judith Armbruster- ***1/2. This was a really sad story of a Muslim girl who was burned in a botched honor killing for getting pregnant before marriage.

Not Easily Washed Away: Memoirs of a Muslim's Daughter Levene, Brian Arthur, Anonymous Beauty. *** 1/2. OK, the Kindle started to get a little crazy with these recommendations...lol, but, I'd have to say that if you're interested in other cultures and religions, checking out some of these books will be worthwhile. This is about a girl who was sexually abused by her father.

Slave: My True Story Damien Lewis, Mende Nazer. ***** This book alone inspired me to to sponsor two children from Africa. Enough said.

The Help Kathryn Stockett ***1/2 I'd have to say that this book was not at all what I thought it would be. I avoided reading it for awhile, but once I picked it up, I was hooked. Some of the stuff is absolutely shocking, and I think it's a great story.

Yeah, he's another I'll have to re-read. Brian Lumbly, the guy who currently is the writer who has been continuing Lovecraft's stories, has two anthology of stories written in the Lovecraft universe. I have one volume, Haggopian. I haven't run across the other volume, The Taint as of yet.

I also looked for BL's stuff while I was there but didn't have any luck.
