Hey Whikle, How are you? I didn't see this thread the way you do? The original poster didn't really ask for details, so I think that's why nobody really posted any. I think the thread's kinda cool. It's interesting to see the variety of books people have read, kinda like their fav movies or what they're currently listening to. *I don't see it as people trying to front or dazzle with their knowledge?
I was very proud of reading Tickle His Pickle: Your Hands on Guide to Penis Pleasing. Just for the record, I might have been trying to impress a few people. :smt042
Um... ya just made me have *flashbacks* regarding WHY I go NUTSO over women with long fingernails..... Mrs. MDBCartoon, as an aside, hasn't got 'em...but I luvs her ennyway. Ennyhoo.....that's one reason, IMO, that I think guys & gals should be a bit older to enjoy the mreits/benifits/overall fun of "Playing Doctor".... ...particularly the "Turn-Your-Head-And-Cough" Test. :tonqe: (For the record, for me, it was Amsterdam, Netherlands Circa 1990 & 1992:smt101:smt112) 'Nuff Said!!!! I'm lazy though, so sometimes a little blurb about what the book is about would be nice. LOL. If I list any books, assume they're all fiction. :smt042 I don't normally read biographies and such. On occasion, but I'd have to be super interested in that person. Like I'd be all over a book about Leonardo Da Vinci. My mom has a biography about Mozart. It's a freaking tome. Otherwise I would have picked it up by now and started reading it. LOL. I'll get to it eventually.

Don't get me wrong, I love books, I love reading and I LOVE discussing books. I'm a total nerd in that sense. I just find it kinda pointless to post the names of the books you've read recently without saying what you thought or initiating some discussion. I suppose the way the thread was initiated only calls for a list of titles, but TELL me about the books you've read, peeps! Did you enjoy them? Did you hate them? Are they worth reading? For instance, I'm currently struggling through the beginning chapters of "Her Fearful Symmetry" by Audrey Niffenegger because I LOVED "The Time Traveller's Wife" and figured another by the same author would entice me in the same way... but so far it's just not grabbing me. Has anyone read it? Is it worth slugging through? Has anyone read The Time Traveler's Wife? Did anyone love it as much as I did?
I haven't read the book (though I did see the movie and it didn't impress me enough to read the book), however, I have 2 friends who are AVID readers and loved The Time Traveler's Wife. I will eventually read it. You can't go by the author to assume it's going to be a good book, in my opinion. As with any creative endeavor, you're going to have hits and misses. I love Stephen King, but I can tell you that there are some real stinkers he's written. I can say the same for every other author I've read where I generally love their books. Maybe the one your reading now is just one of those misses.
I'm reading Stardust by Neil Gaiman and My Soul To Keep by Tananarive Due. Before My Soul To Keep, I was reading Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice.
Noam Chomsky, Deterring Democracy Stephen King, Under the Dome Michael Parenti, Democracy for the Few
ok so folks are wondering what the books are about and if there worth reading ok mills and boons, i read about 5 - 10 a month, there not exactly high brow reading. i like to have a book on the go and these are good for days im likely to be very distracted and im a sap, i love a happy ending nor meekly serve my time. its an irish republican book, it covers the long kesh prison protests by the IRA/INLA covers the times of the blanket protest, no wash protest and the two hunger strikes, the first one where the british government basically backed out when the prisoners who were told they had got the basis of thier 5 demands came off it to prevent sean mckenna from dying. the second strike with bobby sands as the first man on ended with 10 men dying on hunger strike. within 12 months they had the 5 demands minus the special catagory status they had previously had in the cages before the dawn is gerry adams autobiography. covers his early life, his family moving to the murph, the civil rights demo's, the british armys disaterous deployment there, the 70's and having to protect republican areas that were coming under attack from the uda and the army. his time on the run after being declared a wanted man, his treatment when captured and being interned ( being locked up with out charge or trial ) his escapades in cage 11, his escape attempt and subsequent charge for trying to escape ( which ironically is the only charges he ever faced ) his release to be included in talks with the british, his role in the 1980/1981 hunger strikes and hia work with sinn fein in bringing the party to a policy of working for chamge within the political system insted of the abstention policy they had previously had the alst two books are probebly not what people would want to read unless they have an interest in the republican history ( i used to live in belfast, northern ireland up the top of the falls road )
It was probably one of the most useful books that I've read. It took a couple hours to read, and I practice it religiously every chance I get. :smt036
I bought that book for a good friends bachelorette party & naturally I read it before giving it to her. I concur with your sentiment, it's a good little book with lots of practical info.
The movie was shit, Booksie! I would recommend the book to anyone though, I was totally immersed. I was so excited to see the movie because it came out just after I'd read the book and was so caught up in the story and characters.. but the movie was just SUCH a let down. I know a lot of times the movie will be disappointing after the detail of the book, but I just think that movie was stand-alone shit. So don't give up on the book entirely And you're right about the authors... I think I loved the ingenuity of the story with Time Traveler's Wife, not necessarily the writing style. And this second book certainly has not had anywhere near the success of the first so I'm guessing it's just a dud lol.
Yeah, I'll agree with you on that one. Not the same era, but this makes me think of "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt. Enjoyable book, but so much mundane, unnecessary detail!! The book could have been half as long and just as effective!
