Swedes are reserved and aloof at first glance (sorta like Seattleites).. it takes a while for us to open up - in general - once we do, we are really warm and genuine people that will be your friend forver.
I dont get your label as "arrogant", Swedes are not stuck up or arrogant (broad statements like that dont work clearly some are..but its certainly not a national trait)
... but culturally we are primed with careful and slow approcahes for the most part.. if someone goes at it as here in the US or Southern Europe, it may be met with suspision especially if said Swede has not travelled outside.

Clearly there is racism in Sweden (and the rest of Scandinavia) but substantially less than in most part of Europe. The racism is religion based and not color based - I dont say its better, its just is. American black men would not have any problem at all to get interrest from Swedish women, and there are several men on here that can attest to that. I dont see why they would not like you then. The West Coast is very different from the East Coast (Im from Stockholm, a very multiculutral city) and your trip by all means does not make you an expert, you have to travel around and spend time there...like anywhere else in the world.

For the record, Danes, Swedes and Norwegians are Germanic and pretty much identical in personality for the sake of this debate with Danes being a tad bit more continental. Finns are Slavic, and have a more brooding personality Finland is generally xenophobic with very restrictive immigrant laws with Helsinkki being the exception at least a bit.
