Having lived and studied in the US and the UK, this is my perspective. When it comes to pre-school, i think the UK trumps the US because there is mass promotion from KG to 12th grade in America unlike UK where you were made to repeat a class if you didnt do well. When it comes to college, it is relative and both countries can argue that they have better education. UK has Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Kings College and London Business School while US has Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford and Wharton Business School. Which is better? Your guess is as good as mine. The only problem i have is that i have read theses of MBA students in America who use then instead of than, would of instead of would have, you're instead of your and illegible instead of eligible.
Now when it comes to racism it was very prevalent and in your face in the UK when i was growing up in the 70s and 80s but now it's tapered down and its a bit more subtle. Black actors have a brighter chance of making it America than in the UK and Black Coaches are not seen as Head Coach material in sports unlike America where you see Black Coaches in Basketball and NFL. When it comes to interracial relationships though it is widely more accepted in the UK than in the US where people still openly look at interracial couples with disdain in some parts of America. We dont have African-British or Afro-British or Asian- British we are just British unlike America where there is this categorization by race or ethnicity. In UK politics though there is the BNP (British National Party) which is openly racist and even had some MEPs (Members of European Parliament ) quite recently. I can say for a fact though that it will be a cold day in satan's crib before a black man is head of Government in UK or Europe. Which country is more racist? It depends on your personal experience i guess.

Appiah,you hit that on the head on that one,never in my lifetime when a Black man be Prime Minister or President in a European or White Hispanic country. There are MP's in some countries but,never in a leadership position of power. In Sport there are no head coaches in major Football clubs in Europe and you know the racists in the games when they do those monkey chants. FIFA is just almost powerless because of it.
