Associated Press LOS ANGELES - The troubled life of Britney Spears added a new chapter when the intoxicated pop star was whisked away in an ambulance after police were called to her house to help end a nearly three-hour custody standoff involving her young sons. The 26-year-old pop star was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site Friday. Cedars spokeswoman Simi Singer said she could neither confirm nor deny the report, citing patient confidentiality laws. Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service that Spears appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He declined to elaborate. No injuries were reported. Spears was conscious late Thursday when paramedics took her out of her home in a gurney. Several police cars escorted the ambulance out of the neighborhood, followed by dozens of paparazzi. Officers were called to Spears' house around 8 p.m. to respond to the custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Lee said. By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck had entered the gated-community that includes Spears' house. Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night. Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Lee said. Calls to the Police Department's media line early Friday were not answered. Spears and Federline have been involved in a long and very public custody battle. Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July. Spears has appeared increasingly out of control during the past year. She has been photographed without underwear and appeared to be drunk and out-of-control. She shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella and spent a month in rehab and has had a handful of fender benders, including one in which she ran over a photographer's foot. Earlier Thursday, Spears appeared for a deposition in her custody dispute. Spears was deposed for just 14 minutes, Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters after Spears left. Spears called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn't show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said. Spears' attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope on Wednesday filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client. Kaplan said Spears' attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session, which had been scheduled to last two hours. "You can imagine in 14 minutes there's not a lot of time to develop questions," he said. Kaplan said another deposition would be scheduled. ____
That girl as serious problems. This goes way beyond the bad judgment of running a stop light. If you can't stay sober enough to comply with court orders simply to see your kids then there are big issues.
She has got away with so much that the law will take away those kids and end up with supervised visits-depending she cleans her act.
I was chatting with a friend the other day (just about kids in general) and he made a good point.... "you need to have a license to look after pets, or at least register them...but any person is able to have children" I know that there is nothing that could be changed about that situation...but it's true that ANY dodgy lowlife can breed and often with tragic results!
I think this is a situation where you have to blame her parents/mom! Granted, Britney is an "adult" now and is legally responsible for herself, but its clear from her younger sister's current drama that their mom has spent most of the last ten years shopping and not raising and protecting her daughters. But back to Britney...if was just about her, I would say, "Who cares? She will probably be on Surreal Life in the next five years and be a total laughing stock!" Be she's got two kids, and they will be as screwed up as she is (and her sis) if she doesnt get her act together.
Something tells me there's MUCH more drama to come from Britney in 08'. Actually, that's an understatment. Britney is going to make Amy Winehouse seem like mother Theresa by the end of the year.
I really never cared much for Britney, but when i can foresee someone going down the path of destruction, i get concerned for them as a human being. I fear the end of this all could be suicide as its happened countless times with many celebs. Someone out there better get a grip and help this girl before its too late.
I agree with Cris, I never cared for her, now I just feel genuinely sorry for her. I also think that there should be laws against paparazzi, they should have to maintain a certain distance to people, places etc. It is so sad and pathetic to see them chase her...
I feel most sorry for those babies. To start off life with a mother who is emotionally incapable of being there for you like you need is really tough.
How many times across the country tonight will cops show up at a home where the parents are fucked up and the kids are in a bad situation. How many times in your own city. We've got to stop looking at these media driven bullshit stories. Guys like that media whore Dr Phil love to capitalize on this nonsense... we're all being taken on a sleeze ride. I listen to the Howard Stern show yesterday and he really ripped Dr Phil a new asshole. Turns out Dr Phil went to a Tier 4 school (North Texas) and wrote his paper on arthritis... the guy isn't an MD, he's got a dumb-dumb PHD... but he is an expert on bullshit. I hate when the USA focuses on stupid crap like this, especially when the media takes advantage it and gives us nonstop coverage. Remember the Shandra Levy-Congressman Gary Condit scandal... it was a huge media story but I bet you don't know how it all ended... You know why? Because when the media was in a frenzy over a Congressman sleeping with a missing intern... all of a sudden September 11th happened... and the real issues of the world became relevant again. We're losing our focus again... this an important time to stay focused.
It would be awful to be constantly mobbed like that - then she's likely bipolar on top of that. I do wish she would accept professional help. I saw a clip about a reporter doing a segment on the paparazzi. This magazine had a crew of 15 guys or so, all in touch with each other, who would tag team Britney whenever she leaves her home. All to get yet another shot of her in cut-offs, no make-up and greasy hair.
