For some reason, this discussion thread has me thinking about Joanne Whalley-Kilmer and Roland Gift in 'Scandal'. Any idea if BBC has an 'on-demand' feature allowing you to view at your leisure? Night classes kind of make viewing on Mon/Wed/Thurs tough for me.

Caerdydd, just found on You Tube a documentary called Hutch:High Society's favorite Gigolo. It is about Leslie Hutchington a black pianist who was involved with Lady Mountbatton,Bankhead, and many other White women plus Cole Porter.
Hope you be able to see it.

I really hope you guys have had a chance to catch the first 2 eps. It was the last ep this week. Touched on the struggles that some families faced when trying to adopt mixed race kids but also the then British legislation and social attitudes that left many mixed black and white children in the care system.

In particular the women I have huge admiration for that have been featured but maybe one couple more than the others. Ladies and Gentlemen may I present the Duke and Duchess of Richmond. These are what we call in the UK "proper blue bloods" meaning they are aristocracy, top of the line upper echelon of society types with the money and land to back it up. Now these 2 did something that must have people choking on their tea and cream cakes back in 1962. They adopted a little girl with mixed racial heritage (Nimmy March), loved her as their own despite the very vicious backlash that would have been inevitable. Don't get me wrong plenty of couples did the same thing at the time I'm sure but for a Duke and Duchess to do that in 1962 was a jaw dropper!!! :smt103

Seriously people DO NOT MISS THIS.
