Mexican federal police have arrested the mayor of the resort city of Cancun on drug trafficking, money laundering and organized crime charges, the latest blow to 2010 state and local elections already marred by violence and allegations of drug cartel involvement. The federal Attorney General's Office said Sanchez is suspected of offering information and protection to the Zetas drug gang and the Beltran Leyva cartel, which are active in Quintana Roo. Damn...not only does mexico do a better job keeping illegals from overtaking thier society...they are also better at throwing drug-trafficing politians in prison.
But they not doing a very good job at stopping corruption, mass murders and drug cartels. Cancun has gone from a tourist hotspot to a drug haven.
Mexico is the main foreign supplier of marijuana and methamphetamines to the United States. It is also a main transit point for cocaine, heroin and other drugs coming to the U.S. from other countries. Mexican cartels have displaced Colombian groups as the dominant cocaine traffickers in the world. Mexico has not done a good job at stopping the flow of drugs into the U.S.
