Are there any users here who are into heavy metal? It could be any sub genre like black metal, thrash metal, death metal, or metalcore. It's really hard to find people who listen to metal.
I have heard heavy metal before back in the days. I have talked with a few guys who went to concerts. I've even talked with a guy who sometimes went to see satanic metal bands. But he said that he only went for the music and not rituals. Black metal, it was called. It was louder, aggressive and stronger. My cousin, when he was stationed in Germany, went to a lot of metal concerts. He saw Anthrax, Motorhead and others. He even saw Van Halen performance, but the show was a washout because the band was drunk. Like everything else, it's an acquired taste. I remember back in 1986, a friend of mine introduced me to the guitar stylings of Ingwie Malmsteen. I was very impressed.
I agree it is an acquired taste. Most people complain about the screaming and fast tempo of metal music. But there's various sub genres to metal that are a lot softer and even paced. The band "HIM" is a perfect example. Thanks for the detailed reply
I was more into hardcore punk, but there are a few punk bands that shifted to a more metal sound that I still like, like Corrosion of Conformity and D.R.I.
I have heard from guys who went to see Iron Maiden. They told me of cars in the stadium parking lot that were on fire. And if one was lucky to get close to the stage, die-hard fans would bang their heads on the stage because it was considered a shrine.
Most people my age and younger aren't exposed to those bands unless you have a cool older brother or uncle, but YouTube helps lol
I remember a band from the 90's called Green Jell-o. General Foods asked the group to change their name. Anyway, this group had one album and one song that had a music video called Three Little Pigs, it was like a metal-ized rap song. Great pace and sound.
Uh, yeah...thanks for dating me, dude. Lol. But you're right. My older cousin was a roadie and during every summer visit he turned me on to new music and I idolized him, lol.
If you ever just really sit down and read the lyrics it really starts making sense especially in alternative rock.
lol my generation really lost out on that great music. When kids think of "punk" they think of Green Day or Blink 182 which is really sad.
