Amen too. America could have been a better place with people like him. Speaking of Dr King, he's a very celebrated American icon but i cannot help but think that he won't be as loved as he is had he been alive. I really don't think people know that when he wanted to be, he could just as fiery and militant as Brother Malcolm, especially on issues that weren't directly linked to race. For example, he was one of Lyndon Johnson's harshest critics on the Vietnam issue. He opposed American militarism and our quest to dominate the world and spoke angrily against mass oppression and the harm that capitalism was doing to the poor, black and white. If you look closely, Rev Wright's "controversial" and "anti-American" statements aren't too distinct from what Dr King was saying. So if what if the man lived? I cannot help but believe that he would have been called a race-mongering, America-hating, opportunistic communist. Oh wait, he was called that when he was alive. These same right wingers, who are too eager to use his name in vain when it suits them, vociferously opposed King and everything he stood for. The National Review, the conservative mouthpiece of the 50s and 60s, infamously opposed the Brown v Board decision and every other civil rights measure intended to create an equal society for blacks. Ronald Reagan, amongst other conservative Republican politicians, vehemently condemned Dr King and all but gloated when he was murdered. So really was Dr King the passive, unconfrontational, happy, non-threatening Negro the white media and "academia" portray him to be? Or are they distorting the vision of the man to compromise their ideal portrayal of who he should be/have been? I leave you to decide for yourselves which is true.
Not only National Review but, also Human Events the arch conservative journal. No question they are vicious towards Dr.King and gloated when he died. I never believed James Earl Ray was the killer of Martin L. King.
He was passive in the sense that he did not promote outright violence.. which is what some brothas want he decided to use his head and his words.. he knew that directly assaulting the man (going to war, so to speak), would not work in our favor... as for America's dreams of global domination.. we are the new Rome..I just hope we don't crumble like it.. some wars are necessary... We had to aide the European allies in WW2, or else we would have lost our way of life. Germany and Japan would have rolled us over, if we didn't get involved when we did. That was an obvious fight for survival, even though people were protesting our involvement. How could you protest us sending troops to Africa and Europe, when our reason to fight was crystal clear.(must have been facist sympathizers ) These wars now.. well.. You guys watch enough media and are smart enough to figure things out for yourself. Our government is grabbing at whatever they can find, to support going into foreign countries and smokin' people. They still haven't found any Nukes in Iraq, but they're still trying to link that place to the War of Terror. They're coming up with whatever reason to justify a big fuk-up, which is only getting deeper and more costly.
The FBI used to keep tabs on King and considered him to be "dangerous." I read that on yahoo news.. A black man like that, was dangerous indeed. He didn't need to threaten or abuse people, to be a great leader. He spoke the truth about what society, and what he wanted. Because of his very forward thinking, people wanting a better life, flocked to his banner like knights to a great King. I wouldn't be surprised at all, if his "hit" had some ties in the government. We'll never know. some peeps just weren't ready for that black man yet, you know.... he kissed no ass, spoke the truth, and people still loved him white and black..
