This is news to me. i just found a website that says that when king was a young guy studying to be a pastor he was in a relationship with a german woman and they were to be married.

and his mentors advised him not to and the two broke it off.

if it is true, i find it amazing. he never would have become who he became had he followed his heart and did he wanted.

it kinda reminds me of sammy davis and his wife. they were a brave couple.

I've known about that for years. It was mentioned in a documentary about him some years back. The hard part is finding the name of the woman he dated at Crozier.

I remember watching a documentary on King back in middle school, sixth or seventh grade I believe. It mentioned such a relationship, but that it was mostly her who told him they should break it off. Not because she didn't have feelings for him, but because they were living in a time where he or she might get hurt for being together. I'm not saying he didn't love his wife, and the life he eventually came to have with her and others, but I wonder if at least the beginnings of his motivations came from that incident. Like maybe it was sort of a defining moement for him that pointed him in a certain direction.

MLK confirmed this in his famous "I Have A Dream" speech. Where he discussed a time will come when "little" white girls will be able to hold hands with little black boys publicly without fear of retribution.
