wow...lippy actually met manute in dallas when i was on a buying trip...that had to have been in the mid 80s...the high school playoffs were taking place and quite a few of the teams were staying at the same hotel...he was with his cousin and we were checking out that morning to leave...he was so tall i think i could walk right through his legs...being a huge basketball fan ofcourse i struck up a conversation with him...well, sortof...he had a very thick accent and was difficult to understand

sorry to hear that he has past...it makes me feel really old...

the guy was saying how much of a nice guy he was...

many pros let the fame and fortune go to their heads, but Manute always seemed on the level

I guess it's because of how he grew up in Sudan and whatnot

This guy helped other people. He was not concern about fame and fortune, but to help others in need. A true african of the first order. I wish more of the "so-called africans" in this country would do more of the same. May he rest in peace."

my uncle from Nigeria is kind of like that...

he's a business man at heart, but he always tries to employ native Africans. He likes helping his people and tends to steer away from 'African-Americans,' because of how corrupt we have become by living in this every-man-for-himself atmosphere.

Everytime I read about Manute, he always seemed to be doing the uphill battle, trying to help people with his limited resources which takes a lot of courage and heart.

He was only 47 too...that's pretty young around these parts.

RIP, man. Manute was before my time, so I could never see him play. Didn't he shoot the ball from the side of his head?
