Man charged with knowingly spreading HIV Updated Tue May 25, 2010 10:33pm AEST Godfrey Zaburoni has given authorities the names of 12 women with whom he has had unprotected sex. (Queensland Police) Video: HIV-positive man accused of deliberate infection (7pm TV News NSW) Audio: HIV scare in Queensland (PM) A circus acrobat accused of spreading HIV to a woman through unprotected sex is being extradited from Sydney to the Gold Coast. Queensland police have charged Godfrey Zaburoni, 31, with two charges, including grievous bodily harm, after a woman who tested positive to HIV made a complaint against him. Health officials say other women in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria could have been infected. Acting Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Col McCallum says Zaburoni, who has been HIV positive since 1997, has given authorities the names of 12 women with whom he has had sex. "What we're urging for is for anybody involved with this person to come forward. Firstly and primarily we're concerned about their health and wellbeing," he said. "And we ask them to contact Queensland Health. If they have further concerns, we ask them to contact the police through the CrimeStoppers hotline." Zaburoni, a Zimbabwean-born Australian citizen, has appeared as a contestant on Channel Seven program Australia's Got Talent. A Sydney court yesterday morning approved his extradition to Queensland and he will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today. Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young says it is possible more women could have been infected. "I'm not confident about the numbers. I think there's a number. Of those 12, not all of those are in Queensland," she said. "Seven of those were in Queensland. The others were in New South Wales and Victoria, but he's also been in other states. "Unfortunately, he was not able to give us sufficient information so we could contact those women directly." What on earth must go through someones mind that they would do something like this...???
Does it really? In a city far from mines, there was a woman that knowingly passed herpes to a man. He then proceeded to post flyers about this woman who passed herpes to people. http://cbs4.com/local/Hance.Adams.broward.2.701538.html He should be locked up because he is a risk to all of society by doing that. He increases the pass of aids.
I'm a little shocked he's had the disease this long without getting aids. He should be treated like a serial killer and executed. He's ruined dozens of peoples lives.
On ART (antiretroviral therapy) it is possible to lower the disease count in your bodily fluids so low you don't really need to worry about spreading the disease via unprotected sex. Of course, I'm betting this guy wasn't on ART. Magic Johnson he ain't.
We had one in the U.S. too.... http://hiphopwired.com/2010/05/08/1-man-aids-epidemic-denied-release-from-prison/
Why is it always a black man when cases like this are reported. There was a case in the Netherlands that involved a black man who emigrated there from the U.S. who did the same thing. And, then there was the case of the black african diplomat from a Central African nation that made a stink out of the AIDS spread back in the 1990's. I know whites and other races are doing the same yet it is the stigma of image of the black man that is the favorite scapegoat. Yet the black man is again silent.
well, not good enough.... its not really proven to be a fail safe and having it not sharing this info before hand.. no way in hell are there any excuses...
Agreed. It's something you SHOULD tell a partner, because ART does fail and it doesn't work for everyone and it's hellaciously expensive. However, HIV isn't the death sentence it once was. I know someone who's lived with HIV for almost 40 years now. He's healthy as anyone else, fortunately.
