yup... them too. Sounds like there was no probable cause... and they humiliated him. I could see something like that being traumatic for anyone wrongfully accused. Shakes trust in the system and the people behind it.

True. And take his deposit accounts to a nearby credit union, if they don't support their customers.

Where is there a 10,000 limit on a deposit?

It's none of the banks damn business when someone makes a deposit...

When you are making a deposit most banks don't care as long as your putting it in, its only usually when it is an abnormally large cash deposit they are supposed to be taking note.

The summer after I graduated HS I was a teller at a bank and at the time anything over $10,000 in cash and you had to fill out paperwork, since then I believe the limit was lowered to around $7,000. On a check though you could deposit any amount that you wanted because only up to $100 would be available right away with the rest available once the check cleared.

Gorath when I was a teller two forms of ID were standard when cashing a check unless you had an account, the fact that they asked for your social security card I would have said forget that and asked why you need to see it. We had a list of what valid ID was and that was not one, now I dont know if this was a smaller bank but even still you never should have to show that card to anyone, who carries that card around anyway.

I dont know how things in Canada work but this is a clear violation of his rights. When I was reading this story I am like WTF. Another thing is he had a valid account and he was trying to place the money into the account not take any money out most banks would welcome people putting money in. Also it says that he had an account with the bank for years and I know most people tend to go to the branch that they always go to, now if he was in a rush so I am not sure if that was the case but if it was did someone who has been there a while not remember him. Most tellers tend to build some kind of good rapport with repeat bankers.

The settlement that they offered was a joke and offense in and of itself, they obviously though we'll throw some crumbs his way he is stupid enough to take it. They clearly thought he was some below average intelligence idiot who would just jump at some quick cash.

Thanks for clarifying! Cash is a red flag...interesting that you brought this up...in Colorado the pot business is all cash...because banks are backed by the FDIC and pot is against federal law these businesses operate on cash only...pretty dangerous...
