Look back in the 80s you might be right. I seriously couldn't tell you since I was in grade school during those years but when I spend time with the younger kids in my family it seems like everyone is under that pressure. Even when I was high school the whole idea of having a six pack wasn't a thing yet but being on a team and having muscles was and not only that the more stuff you had ie nice clothes, nice car, expensive gadgets the cooler you were. What kind of car you had as a girl had no bearing on what kind of guy you got. Granted it would probably put more pressure for you to be thinner since you didn't have a go to like material wealth that men have but riddle me this. Is it easier for a young person without parental help to acquire monetary goods and stay in decent shape or for them just to keep in shape?

I'm not saying men have it harder physically but all around men do.
My biggest go to example of this is short women don't even like short guys but short men will go for short women. Fat women don't even like fat men (this one always cracks me up since the excuse is "how would that look") but fat men will go for fat women, broke women aren't usually attracted to broke men but that usually has no bearing on whether a man will go for a woman or not. Bottom line is all things being equal women have a better chance of finding a mate.

 

You want to compare one fat man to the tons of fat women in porn ? There is no equality there and thank gawd for that.

 

Did you really just choose entertainment as an example? The entire industry is built on the superficial. I'll bottom line this since it's late and I don't feel like breaking it down for you. As far as entertaining the masses women are not captivating on screen if they aren't sexually appealing. Men are commonly known for doing action, comedy, and drama which gives them more avenues to work in.
In action you have to be in shape so the same pressures are on men if not more so since you can literally starve yourself and be thin but you have to work your ass off to get muscle. And outside of a few select women they can't carry an action film the way men can. Its not as entertaining and when they do they need men adversaries to sell the authenticity of them being bad ass.
In comedy women aren't as funny as men at least not to men. I know a lot of women think Rosie was funny but unfortunately men don't. And its not sexist because even racist can find black people funny but unfortunately most times female humor doesn't translate to men but the other way around works well which is why a fat man can get work. Its not like Travolta and Baldwin are still sex symbols they're comedy characters most time they work.
Drama is pretty even.

Although Ron Jeremy is an extreme (and fat) example, there are MANY ugly ass men in porn. Which is unfortunate, to say the least. Because there are plenty of women (myself included) who like porn (and not that waste of space "female friendly" shit they make...geezuz, that stuff is crap).

I remember watching a scene in a movie where there were three white guys and a woman, and of the three only one guy was watchable, the other two looked like biker rejects. Yick. Don't agree about the funny part, but saying that most women actors have little value in a film if they aren't physically attractive is the POINT.

THe only overweight woman I know of who's been given major roles and had box office success is Kathy Bates.

This is going in circles, maybe it's the whole rise of metro-sexualism in the younger demographic where men today feel 'pressure' to be 'pretty', but the reality still remains that women are pressured more to be at an ideal weight AND be beautiful by society at large.
