Didn't see the final. My last season of being a regular viewer was during season two. Once Eko was killed off I pretty much bolted although I checked in from time to time. The death of Eko which followed the character assassination of Michael was too much for me. I'm sorry but I no longer have patience for these shows that gut black characters and or don't give them the same treatment of their white characters. On "Lost" it was even worse because it had characters of so many races and yet IMO the only ones to be treated like garbage by the writers were the black characters. Michael's killing of the two ladies was ridiculous storytelling. Don't want to hear any nonsense about his concern for Walt. The writers never even attempted to write a script that truly explained how Michael could get that desperate enough to go on a killing spree just to secure the release of Ben. Heck it turns out that Ben and the Others never sanctioned any killings; it was all Michael's idea. For me to believe that a good human being would go homicidal and take two innocent lives, even to get back his son (a son he barely had contact with before the crash), I have to be given a crafted story that makes it all plausible. I never got that from the show. The word was always that the kid laying Walt was growing so fast TPTB of the show had to find a way to get him off the show. So they did so by making Michael a murderer and having him and Walt leave the island. My own personal theory is that TPTB knew they had a great character in Eko and probably felt one main black character was enough. What they couldn't predict was that the actor playing Eko would end up being a bit of a diva and would ask to be released from his contract (despite his character's popularity). So the show ended up being left without a main black character (Rose was never a main character). The series had plenty of opportunities to add another main black character to the cast. After all it added another Asian, perhaps another Hispanic and PLENTY of other white characters. But TPTB couldn't care less about adding a new black face. Instead it brought back Michael and talked about how his character had to redeem himself (he had to redeem himself only because crappy writers turned him into a damn killer). Apparently it wasn't enough that Michael sacrificed himself to save Jin in season four. No he supposedly his "soul" came back in the final season and spent like an entire episode apologizing to Hurley about killing his love-to-be Libby (the fact that TPTB employed the third rate actor who plays Hurley for six years but got rid of the fantastic actor who plays Michael says it all). And now I've been told none of the black characters (except Rose of course) were worthy of being seen in "Heaven" or in the flash sideway segments is further proof of the writers' insensitivity. Its annoying to keep reading articles, blogs and posts by people who say they are disappointed with what happened to the black characters but still supported the show nonetheless. I include my own sisters on that front. Perhaps if more people had been vocal about it and took a stand.... Anyway from what I could tell the show was a mess the last four seasons anyway and the writers kept adding convoluted storylines rather than wrapping up previous mysteries. Sounds like bad planning and as far as I'm concerned the show never recovered from JJ Abrahams leaving the day-to-day running of the series sometime around season two.
It was a sweet ending but due to lack of answers it proved to me writers never knew what they were doing.
In reality, the actor who played echo demanded quite a bit more money than the studio was willing to give him for a guest spot cameo in the finale, so we got the lame ending we did with no eko, Micheal, black people etc (Rose doesn't count, she was never a series "regular")
evidently Apparently Anna Lucia wasn't liked enough to bring back in, plus she was busy with some other projects. And They gave us that garbage explanation for Michael earlier in the season which I find ridiculous considering Sayid and Ben killed way more people in much more malicious manors. Evidently his soul was un-redeemable to lost writers? My assessment of the finale having been an avid watcher and film school graduate is the following: The writers chose to have 2 major story arc concerns, 1) Character/Personality Development and the other 2) Mythological & Science vs. Faith storylines. If you were a fan of Lost for the Character's, and interpersonal struggles and relationships, you probably were pretty satisfied with how things came to an end. However, if you were more a fan of the Mythology/Science of the show, you got pissed on as far as answers. Like , did we ever find out WHY Walt was so "special"? That was wrong of them to drag people along for 6 seasons and then NOT give several answers to questions they posed, no matter how trivial. My opinion, I could go on about this, but I'll stop there. P.S How they did Micheal was supposedly planned from the beginning since the writers claim that they knew from the beginning of the series how it would end. JJ. Abrams & Darlton said they wrote it and locked it up for the 6 years, as not to be influced by fan popularity. Still a bunch of B.S if you ask me.
Well I'm of the latter group and I was pissed to say the least. Like why couldn't the smoke monster be near electro magnatism or why was Desmond resistant to it. Shit like that was totally annoying. They need to do a tv movie to wrap things up. A lot of shows have ended badly lately like Kyle Xy. I was big fan horrible ending. So do you direct or write scripts?
Well yea, I agree, I was a bit stunned, then confused, then pissed a few days after the finale once I finally figured out what the hell they just wrote. It was an irresponsible ending for them to leave so many open threads, yet they claim no movie and tv spin off will be made. I think the purgatory sideways flash was an awful cop-out. In previous seasons, flash backs/forwards were incredibly ingenious and powerful writing devices for excellent story telling. The sideways flash had so much potential... No, I'm doing medical school, film was my undergrad degree, I did for school, but I still look at film and tv very critically because of my years of schooling. Can be annoying at times since I can't watch them to just enjoy it, I'm always analyzing tv and movies.
Yeah I know what you mean. I can't listen to music the same way anymore especially things like American Idol.
