A young woman marrying an older man is hardly a new concept. In fact, history is filled with many storied leaders, famous faces and powerful tycoons wedding girls young enough to be their daughters, even granddaughters. At the height or rock star Jerry Lee Lewis’ fame, he actually married his thirteen year old cousin, unwittingly causing immense harm to his career and scandalizing himself in the process. That being said, it’s still absolutely shocking every time it happens.

Lost actor Doug Hutchison and beauty queen Courtney Alexis Stodden were married this week in a small ceremony in Las Vegas. Neither of those names may be familiar to you, but the fifty-one year old Hutchison is probably best remembered as the sick, and mentally unbalanced Percy in The Green Mile. His bride, on the other hand, is an aspiring sixteen year old country musician who her mother claims is/ was a virgin and a good Christian girl. She certainly doesn’t look any bit of a teenager in the above photograph, but according to E!, beauty pageant records do verify she’s underage.

So, how the hell did this happen? Well, because Stodden is technically a minor, she needed documented parental approval in order to tie the knot, and her mother was all too happy to sign the papers. She’s been running around telling half the news sources on the internet about how pleased she is with the nuptials.

If I had a sixteen year old daughter, she sure as shit wouldn’t be marrying some b-list celebrity more than three times her age. What the hell do these two even talk about? Marriage is about finding a partner to spend your life with. It’s about having someone to share experiences with. What the hell experiences could these two possibly share? To paraphrase Midnight In Paris, maybe they both like pita bread. I give this disaster four years.

That being said, there’s at least three people who approve of this union. You might be a fourth. Vote in the poll below and let us know how long you think it’ll last

Why the hell would a normal 51 year old man want to marry a 16 year old girl? Why would this girl's parents let their child marry a pedophile? He was already creepy enough as Percy Wetmore in "The Green Mile". I don't see it lasting any longer than any typical Hollywood marriage, & hopefully for the girl's sake, marrying this old pervert doesn't ruin her life. :(

Odd. If they do last what happens in say 20 years when he is 71 and she is 36. That is when the age difference will start to show.

And oddly enough a 20 year old with 60 year old Kirstie Alley is a cause to celebrate because...
You people crack me up. Thanks for the laugh

I don't think a 20 year old man and 60 year old woman is normal either. People can obviously do what they want but it would be especially fucked up bringing children into that situation. Just me though.

I would not be pleased if my hypothetical 16 year old daughter married a 51 year old man and I would definitely not be happy if Jacob brought some granny home when he is 20. Considering I'll be 36 when he is 20 I would NOT be cool with that.

The difference is a 20 year old is grown.

Yeah, I don't think it's the most normal thing either, but at least in that scenario they are consenting adults. I don't entirely get the appeal to that much age difference, because I wouldn't want to have that much age difference between myself & the person I'm dating or married to. If folks are fine with it, I say more power to them, but it could definitely present some serious challenges in the relationship that I wouldn't be too crazy about dealing with myself, especially on a long term basis.

That's an excellent point, LS. Honestly, I doubt I'd be happy about my son being with someone that much older, especially if he wanted to marry her. I think it would most likely make for a difficult future, & I wouldn't want my son to be unhappy. When it boils down to it though, it's up to him.

Yes it does. I know there was a big difference in myself between the ages of 16 & 20.

Exactly, JC. There's a huge difference between the two.

LOL! Somehow I don't think there will be the same outrage about the new boy toy. ;)

It's normal. Not necessarily normal in modern Western terms, but way back then, during the times of when the church was of major influence, it was commonplace. Even before that, it was common to see old men with young girls as young as 14-16 years old. Normal is only relative and at least in this day and age, it's not a forceful practice. So, for the 16 year old parents to approve of this marriage is VERY premature and given they were married in the state of Nevada, they are in legal range, thus no consequences.

As for how long they'll last? Given that this a relationship between a B-List celebrity and some beauty pageant winner, I'd say it won't last even a year.

Thanks, LS. I appreciate you. :D

Btw, I'm happy you're doing better, & it's great to have you back with us again. You've definitely been missed. :smt058

Disaster? They chose their mate based upon something more than age and society's expectations? I expect they will do better than many who marry out of some sense of obligation to friends, family, and society.

First of all 20 is not grown it's an age of consent. At 20 you have pretty much the same responsibility a 16 year old has. Go to school and maybe have a part time job. Your views might change slightly but you're still a child in my opinion. I didn't feel grown until I signed a lease and bills were coming in every month and I was allowed to have who ever I wanted over for as long as I wanted them over.
Most 20 year olds don't have that freedom and if they do it's because someone older cosigned.
So I see no difference between 16 and 20 especially in terms of girls and boys since women LOVE to preach how much more mature they are than boys their age.

To your first point what country are you living in where dating is different from marriage?
That shit is a joke these days especially when talking in terms of a Hollywood relationship which this. There's no sacred union no joining of two insperable souls. Just two attention seeking idiots. So sorry your point holds no water.

To your second point this is whitewomenblackmen.com so if she dates a white guy it doesn't matter in the context of this forum. Good try though.
