Kanye West did an R&B cd and it went platinum. I think Lil Wayne is looking to do the same. I give him credit for trying. I'm pretty sure its going to be decent, to say the least.
Huh, I'm not sure how I feel about this really... can't say that I'm too excited about it but I'll wait till it's out before I judge!
The kicker tho, for this story, is that Lil Wayne is crossing over into a different genre, with a 'very' different core audience, as opposed to someone going from say 'hip-hop,' to R&B. The question for him is, whether or not Rock's audience (which has a majority of white listeners), will accept another Black Rock artist, into their fold (like Lenny Kravitz, or Lajon from Sevendust). He also has to see if his current followers, will cross-over, and buy his rock album. It's a bigger risk in my opinion. I love rock music, among other forms, so I'll give it a shot.
I don't think they'll have a problem with him doing rock music as long as it's good. They're are more blacks doing rock/metal than one might think. But Lil Wayne is going out of his element. If he's good and is and sincere about his music, people will buy it. I think his hip-hop fans will buy it too. It'll be something different for them. How is he on guitar, by the way?
He sucks ass on the guitar. Saw a video last year. Horrible. And I bet lil wayne will go the shop boyz route(party like a rockstar). You know, loop a guitar riff over a drum machine and call it rock. Plus, I bet lil wayne will do the stereotypical smash the guitar and bullshit like the shop boyz did. I wonder if it he will use autotune. I'm sure most of his fans will buy it. His fans do love to dick ride.
Well we'll all just have to wait and see .... People hated on Kanye's attempt at the R&B and a lot of people loved it. I'm sure this cd is going to be the exact same way.
Never really paid any attention to Lil Wayne until my 12 yo niece came to stay the summer. Now I have never been so sick of an artist since Miami Sound machine when I lived in Miami. He is a bottom feeder. Come to think of it, he might just fit right in with all the white trash. LOL
.........anyway  I think I'll give some of his tracks a shot. I'm curious as to see what type of singing he will do. Doubt many people I know will buy it, as I was looked at cross-eyed for listening to Limp Bizkit, which was/is a rap-rock group.
eh... maybe he'll go into Screamo, or something else that requires ridiculous amounts of screaming and heavy guitars.
...currently, wayne's guitar is more or less just a stage prop.. I'm hoping he gets some legit rock talent (lenny kravitz, vernon reid, prince?) to help him on the album.. if he really wants to 'play' guitar and not just 'play around' with it..
