Just for the sake of accuracy, he didn't say "black men hanging from trees", he said "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside-down with a fucking fork up your ass" It is the very first thing you see on the video, and you still hear people laughing, so one can only speculate about the context, but based on the following sequences, I tend to agree with your interpretation.

In my opinion, there isn't anything he could say to reason or to justify his behavior, nevertheless, it would be interesting to see an uncut version about the whole incident to see what caused this racist outburst, since all heckler parts were cut out, except the last ones in which they call him a "fucking cracker-ass motherfucker" and a "Fucking White boy".

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that he better starts looking for a day job, his careers is over.

About the black or white usage of the term "nigger" or "nigga", in my opinion that's just one example about the differences between dealing with different "cultures" or dealing with a society in which the majority of people still believe in the concept of different "races".

If you come in contact with different cultures you know little or nothing about, and you want to behave in an appropriate manner and you don't want to offend someone, than you are on the safe side if you simply watch and observe their behavior and then try to blend in by adjusting your own behavior accordingly.

That's impossible when it comes to dealing with people who believe in different "races", because then there are totally different and mostly irrational dynamics at work which are not only impossible to grasp for someone unfamilar with their way of thinking, but which will also lead to the result that the often well ment "do like they do" approach will be viewed as a major offense.

He didn't use the words "tree" or "hanging", but as I said before, I agree with your interpretation since the whole video supports this and there is no evidence to the contrary. I really just said it for the sake of accuracy.

Words are very powerful and it takes powerful people to manipulate them.

I don't think there is anything else to add to this thread that has not been mentioned. But for some pinheads who want to go on the whole "nigger and nigga are two different things" bandwagon, please cut the fucking shit, okay. They mean the same fucking thing. Nigger was the word used from slavery days to Jim Crow, used to intimidate, demean and make blacks feel worthless. Nigga is just a modification of the goddamn word. To me, it carries the same connotation that is why when blacks and Latinos say it, i get very irritated. When whites say it, i'm so sorry but i do not give them the benefit of the doubt. I just cannot. I find it very difficult to accept that a word which has carried the same freaking meaning for more than 300 years automatically changes in 30 years time. Bull fucking shit.

Besides, who gives a fuck whether he used the damn words "tree" or "hanging". Those of you who want to live in your naive little worlds, please do so but he certainly adopted the Klansman stance and he doesn't need to utter those exact words. The KKK did not always hang people every given time they appeared but is that not one of the many brutal things they are known for?

I am not under any circumstances defending the hecklers but comedians always get heckled. It's part of the freaking act; if you cannot take it, get your fucking ass off the stage for God's sakes. You cannot handle it, let me see you 1,2 step. Do not go around speaking like some Klansman and then appear of fucking David Letterman, expecting everyone to be singing "Kumbaya" with your greasy ass and forgive you. Anyway, i personally think this guy's done. Not that he had a stellar career to begin with, but he has dented any further career aspirations. Time to send an application form to JC Penney for someone.

P.S. Excuse my expletive language but i just had to rant.

He was still talking about lynching black men so forget all that sugarcoating. You folks on here kill me sometimes I bet if a blackwoman had said that folks would all be on the same page.

Wow, LDC. I like what you have to say and how you say it.
Its funny how Black folk try to protect their own oppressors. Its the Stockholm Syndrome on a national scale.

I know. Bill Cosby actually said some things that carried some weight and folks were acting like George Wallace and Strom Thurmond had resurrected or something. But this asswipe is getting defended by some creeps. What a shame!!!!

This article is interesting but unless I'm mistaken it doesn't mention that the Kramer guy used the n word as deliberately offensive, whereas the vast majority of black people who use the word don't use it in this way, but as a term of endearment. I mean did he seriously believe he could just come out with it in the way he did and not receive any backlash? Especially considering his other comments.

So the double standards can't really be brought up here because of the context, I feel. If it was the case of a white and black person both using the word as a term of endearment, it would be different.

That's right! Kramer meant ALL his words with the most hateful of sentiments. It's funny that those who accept it as normal wouldn't dare refer to latinos as "spics" to jews by derogatory slurs them sometimes use amongst themselves. I've heard them but wouldn't never feel so cozy to spew the same things. Kramer showed up the following day to apologize and never did...it only came once blacks started mobilizing to protest. You have those lining up to protect and sugarcoat this tirade. Many of them are upset he got caught...but agree with his message. I'm not surprised in the least by what he said yet they ALWAYS deny racism is still a major problem in this country. Imagine going before people like this for a job interview or when applying for housing, mortgages etc. Quite frankly, I'm surprised when they are not like Kramer.

The only thing the heckler said was Kramer was not good...he was not funny. He flipped out because he knew it was the truth! Comedians always get heckled have have their comebacks handy to hurl right back so the audience is on their side. He showed his true nature and I've read other accounts of him being cold and nasty to blacks. This is not unusual one bit!

Ellahara I wished no one can use it mostly because how can a Black person tell if the White person male or female is sincere on their friendship to blacks?

'Kramer' was out of line to use that word so harshly in front of a mixed audience. So, what does he do to get his credibility back? Hire Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to help him clean up his 'public image' mess he made.

Well, here's my take on the issue. The two threads are about the same topic but are discussed differently. The first thread is about Michael Richards' racial tirade and he has been pulverized all week for it(with good reason to) and i hope he reaps the fruit of what he's sown. I am also glad that at least for once, there have been no double standards when it comes to misbehavior and race. The past week or so, it has been all about O.J and a bunch of angry white people upset that he'd make a profit out of telling his own side of the story. He has been castigated (at least by the media) for his actions and probably would never see any mainstream success again as long as this story remains, hopefully.

The second thread was abotu Bill Cosby's comments earlier this year about black males and personal responsibility. Ironically enough, many "liberal" whites(and some blacks) treated Bill Cosby just as unfair as they are doing this KKKramer guy. Now you would think Bill Cosby echoed similar sentiments about black people which, depending on who you ask and how you look at the context of his comments, might think he actually did. Personally, i think Bill Cosby was right and wrong. His criticism of a perceived anti-intellectual stance amongst significant numbers of black youths, as well as the failure of our "leaders" to act, were met with cold and perhaps undeserved repudiation. People were reacting as though George Wallace, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms wrote the script for him. The harsh words for Cosby were so immense that even white conservatives had to defend him at some point. But i thought it was undeserved. He was right in saying that so many of our youths (males and females) and underachieving, indulging in anti-intellectual behavior and not getting our priorities right. All of that is true, except that it is completely wrong to make a generalisation. I do not know if he intentionally meant to make such a general comment or not, but either way he was wrong to make a sweeping comment. That, to me, is one of the few mistakes he made. He was absolutely right to criticize the "bad eggs" amongst us and even Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters, some of the so-called black leaders, did not disagree with him. I am not sure if they agreed, but given their take-no-prisoners attitude towards letting their feelings be known, i'd be sane enough to assume they probably agreed with him.

I was so embarassed by the way Bill Cosby was treated for his concern. Now, as some have pointed out, he was speaking perhaps to the "wrong crowd" and maybe should have gone down to act as the doctor to the really ill people, but for those who say he has not done anything for the community, here's the thing; He has. He donated $20 million dollars to Spelman in 1987 and still continues to be a donor towards them as well as other African-American causes. Cosby has never been one to look over his community and keep going so for him to be castigated by some of the people he was trying to help was an act of betrayal, to say the least. Usually, i do not buy into the whole "personal responsibility" bullshit spouted by all these fucking moronic conservatives because it's all rubbish in my opinion. Let's be honest, even those who commit crimes know it is wrong for them to do so but are only acting either out of desperation or stupidity. They still know it's wrong. But he was right in saying that some of us have got to get our priorities right and take charge. You cannot goof off, refuse to go to school, stay off drugs and crime, have 4 children by 4 different women and expect to have a perfect lifestyle. You do not need to be Edwin Hubble to be able to figure out that it's a Herculan task, perhaps even an impossibility. That is what he was trying to point out.

Yet, some treated him as though he said anything half as bad as this bastard Richards. Some are even defending him or sugar-coating his words. Now is this not someone who used blatantly hateful speech? Where are the repudiations from the black intellects? How come he claims to reach out to black and Jewish civil rights activists and is pardoned in the twinkle of an eye. Cosby was not offered a similar retribution, even though what he said was not even 1/4 as bad as what this fool said. Yet some of the folks who attacked Cosby are nowhere to be found now. It's a shame. It's a shame that when some try to help, they get it thrown in their faces. But if they decide to keep things as they are for everyone to handle, they'd be criticized by the same set of people. You do not believe me, look at Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. We should not bite the fingers that feed us. Sure, i am not for making up lies, buying into exaggerations about black state-of-mind, but when some things are obvious, let them be discussed. It is pointless crying over spilt milk.

Unless, of course, you're Michael Richards.
