Something Kinda Ooh La La: Girls Aloud Singer Nadine Coyle Enjoys Romantic Break In Paris With New Love Jason Bell

Nadine Coyle certainly had the look of love last night after spending a romantic weekend in Paris with new boyfriend Jason Bell.
The Girls Aloud singer couldn't stop smiling as she stepped off a Eurostar train at London's St Pancras after a weekend of culture and romance in the French capital.
Playing the dutiful boyfriend, retired American footballer Jason, 30, carried the couple's small Louis Vuitton holdall.

Ooh la la: Nadine Coyle and boyfriend Jason Bell arrived back at London's St Pancras station after taking the Eurostar from Paris.

In contrast to Nadine's minuscule strapless baby pink dress that she wore to the Brit Awards on Wednesday, the Northern Irish singer looked casually chic in a baggy blue-shirt, leggings and stiletto heels.
After arriving back in Britain after the two-hour train journey, the Something Kinda Ooh star, 23, and Jason returned to her north London home.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2007, Nadine rarely spends time in England, only visiting to fulfil her Girls Aloud commitments.
After missing out on the Brits last year, Nadine joined her bandmates Sarah Harding, Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts on the red carpet at Wednesday's ceremony.
The group, which formed six years ago, were thrilled to pick up the Best Single award for The Promise, which was one of the few Brit Awards to be voted for by the public.

Red carpet ready: Nadine and Jason at a Brit Awards after-party on Wednesday night.

With her bandmates all bringing their boyfriends, Nadine took Jason to the star-studded bash and subsequent after-parties.
Speaking to reporters backstage, she gushed: 'I'm the happiest I've ever been.'
Speaking recently about him, Nadine said: 'He plays American football and he is so smart.
'Not showbiz at all. He had never heard of [Girls Aloud] when we met through a mutual friend, but he's a fan now.'
Nadine and Jason started dating in September last year after meeting in LA.
He recently divorced his ex-wife Kimberly, while Nadine ended her 18-month on/off romance with Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe last year.
Last week, Girls Aloud said they were trying to rearrange their schedule so they could perform at cancer-stricken reality TV star Jade Goody's wedding to Jack Tweed on Sunday.
While their chart rivals Sugababes performed at the Essex country house reception, it emerged Girls Aloud were unable to attend.
Nadine's bandmate Nicola was spotted checking out shows at London Fashion Week over the weekend, while it is believed Cheryl and Kimberley were continuing their training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Comic Relief next month.

It looks like in the UK, the girls are aloud to to this without catching a bunch of flack from the rest of the nation.

It seems like it's a trade-off comparing the two countries on being progressive & on IR's. On one hand I would agree that the UK seems to be more open about IR relationships than we are here but, as far as numbers of blacks in particular being officials of the government, in entertainment/media, and even sports it seems that we do better over here. This is a point that was well stated by the Brits when the Obamas went to London for the G20. They said that Britain is no where near having anyone like them as of yet.

Agreed. Black people in the UK are practically non-existant in govt. & business.

Hmm, I have to disagree with you a little bit there.
From what I've seen on this forum and from what I've heard from my American friends, I do think that Britain is much more acceptant when it comes to IR relationship. Go to any major city here and nobody bats an eyelid at an IR couple. England isn't free of racism at all unfortunately but we ARE more open about interracial relationships.
We do have influencial black people in our media and ESPECIALLY in our sports, but you are right about politics. But we also don't have ANY influencial women politicians either (I wouldn't count Jackie Smith as influencial, for the record!). British politics are stuck in this old conservative regime and every single politician from every single party is exactly the same. I admire American politics because you're actually moving forward.

Otherwise though, I do think that we're much more open to IR relationships. People just don't make as much of a big deal over it here as they do in America.

I think you could make that claim about most major cities in the US as well, but we have a hell of a lot more major cities here.

I have worked in NATO many years, and reading this thread made me realize that I have never met a black Military Officer from the UK.

Well at least you're pretty much agreeing with me for the most part. Just as we would all like to see more openess over here concerning IR's, I would also love to see more of my bros & sistas large & in charge:smt028 in entertainment and especially in the area of politics/government. Not just in the UK, but in all of Europe as well!

There are a few Black MPs and very few peers in the House of Lords. It would take a long time for more Blacks to arrive.

This US vs UK issue is a very contemplating one. My moms used to live in London until she met my dad (he went to grad school in London School of Economics) and so she knows the UK well, as i do too.

On issues of social relevance and culture, Britain is a much more liberal/progressive society. That includes interracial and cross-cultural relationships and marriage. Interracial dating, even BM/WW relationships, do not attract the spite, hostility, suspicion and downright disgust that it does in some quarters of the United States. This is not to suggest that everything is all hunky-dory on that front, but it seems that the British (and Europeans in general) are willing to see interracial couples for what they are - just another couple. Nothing more, nothing less. Apparently, almost 50% of black men in the United Kingdom are either dating, married to or living with white women.

Having said that, black Britons have not made anywhere near the amount of progress black Americans have made. Keep in mind that blacks have been in Britain for a much longer period than blacks in America, which dates as far back as the 14th century. The slave trade in Western Europe, as students of history probably know, started much earlier than the American slave trade and as such, lasted for much longer. In the United States, there is an expanding and lasting black middle class, consisting of lawyers, doctors, teachers, businesspeople and other professionals. There are scores of black athletes, actors, media personalities and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies - not to mention, the most prominent executive officer in the entire free world, Pres. Barack Obama, is partly of African ancestry. There are black millionaires from a wide spectrum and if black America were a seperate nation, it'd be the 16th wealthiest nation in the world, with its GDP roughly the same as, say, Italy. Despite the amount of work still needed to be done, America boasts a vibrant black presence and persuasion rivaled by no other nation, including Nigeria, the most populous black nation.

Sadly, the same cannot be said for Britain. There are not very many media personalities in England. Despite the fact that black players account for 25% of the Premier League, there is not a single black manager in the English football ("soccer") premiership. The first (and only so far) black manager, Paul Ince, lasted for no more than 4 months before getting the pink slip. There isn't a noticeable black middle class as there is in the United States. You can count on two hands the amount of blacks in prominent positions in government, including the House of Commons. Blacks now make up more than 15% of the military and there are many in leadership positions - Colin Powell was Chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff from 1989 - 1993. There are no Oprah Winfreys, Denzel Washingtons, Tiger Woodses, Michael Jordans, P Diddys and even Barack Obamas in England. Nada!

Put simply, America, for all intents and purposes, still remains the best hopes for blacks. Now i am not unaware of the struggles blacks (and even some whites and others) have taken to secure at least the presumption of equality in the United States, but no country has done more to live up to its ideals of freedom (at least, in its most basic form) and redeem itself of its evil past than the good ol' U.S.A. We may not have reached the tolerance levels that some (including myself may prefer), but i'd rather be stared at because of who i'm dating whilst keeping my wealth than live in a country where people let you date their daughters but won't do business with you.

    And that includes England.

You make some valid points. I do think you overlooked a couple of points. While Black people have been in the UK since the 14th century. The numbers that arrived then were tiny. The majority of Brits arrived in the 50's, 60's and 90's. Depending on what source you take your figures from, the largest estimates are 3 million black Britons today. Of these 3 million Brits, none have benefited from affirmitive action-it's illegal here. I am sure you will agree your affirmitive actions laws have helped black people in the USA achieve more than they would have, without it.

Also, you got to remember that black Brits only make up a tiny percentage of the British population. Conservative estimates place the numbers at 2%, while some say the percentage is as high 5%. Either way this is way lower than the USA's 12.9%. So just looking at it from a stastical point of view, you are more likely to see Black people in Business, sport, government etc..in the USA then in the UK.

I appreciate your comments. One point of disagreement: England did not have slavery longer than the US. In fact, England outlawed importation and ultimately slavery earlier than the US - in the early 1800s and then in slavery itself in the 1830s - and actually policed the high seas and impounded slave ships to deter the slave trade. I'm not saying it was for noble reasons - it was probably more a function of realpolitik than anything else - but it is what it is. Brazil, on the other hand, was among the last to officially end it in the new world, during the 1880s.

Didn't they start slavery before the US though?
