It was meant to be a joke. I wasn't being serious. I understand that they were trying to connect it to an already established franchise to help draw people in. I just wasn't sure if anybody else caught the angle.
My first experience with foreign traditions came when I studied TKD in my teens, under a Korean master and his 2 sons. Before class, we had to sweep the floors (good old hardwood, no padding anywhere..) and make sure the dojang was clean. We were NOT allowed to wear sneakers (you best believe you'd get some shit if you felt like flashing your new Jordans) in the training area. We were also always taught to bow while maintaining eye contact and walk away backwards (guess turning your back and walking away is disrespectful ) , when being dismissed by an instructor or after a sparring session (away from your partner). It was a good learning experience studying under someone from another country, as you become exposed to the way other peoples do things. I would still recommend something like that to everybody.
