That's a shocker. She totally had me percieved as one of those celebrity whtie female country singers(like Carr Underwood) that wouldn't even know any black man outside of rappers. lol. In all seriousness though I wish them the best. Still a shock though.
I dont follow enough of new country singers to know lol. He is a Doctor though so seems she is burned out on her normal social circle and went outside.
What...the...fuck? Is this real? Yo, if this is a legit thing than it should have its own separate thread, not tucked away in a thread dedicated to random hookups of people who don't often count as real celebs. This is Kacey Musgraves. She's a big deal even though she is not a household name. She is one of the most critically acclaimed new artists of the past decade. She's big enough to have her own TV Christmas special. She is a country artist but she is not a huge seller in the country market because country music is increasingly an industry in which only men dominate in sales. She is more embraced by music listeners who don't tend to listen to country but like her because of how well her songs are crafted. She may get more coverage from more mainstream media than the media that concentrates solely on country musicians. She opened for Harry Styles, who is definitely non-country, during his tour. She won a Grammy for Album of the Year two or three years ago. Because she openly embraces progressive stuff like gay rights she isn't necessarily beloved by the folks running the industry in Nashville and her outspokenness keeps her from amassing the type of country fanbase that Taylor Swift used to have. She is also pretty sexy too imo. This is the last white female celeb in the world I expected to wake up to learn is dating a black man. First of all last I knew she was married, one of those typical hot, young white chicks in the country industry who gets some average Joe white husband before they even become a success. I thought that meant she was on lockdown for the next two decades at least. When did she get divorced? Secondly, regardless of how country fans and the Nashville power brokers may think of her she is STILL an American country artist. When was the last time one of them, one that was actually famous, had been seen within twenty feet of a black guy, let alone marry one? Last of all she is white and the number of white female celebs in their physical prime who have dated black men these past ten or so years is pretty damn non-existent. And those that have done so tend to not even be American. Really, wtf? Her dating this guy may be the gutsiest thing I've seen by a heterosexual white female celeb (when it comes to dating choices) in a long, long time; particularly when you consider she is a damn country musician. I am not trying to pick on you but I don't get that comment. Would Carrie Underwood even know any rappers other than, say, Drake or Eminem? Anyway I tend to doubt Kacie listens to rap or even cares about it. Leon Bridges is more her speed. I hope this doesn't affect her career too badly (she will definitely never be fully embraced by the country industry now) and I wish her and new new BF all the luck.
Its funny cause all the new country singers do bro country and basically want to be rappers lol @JamalSpunky
I've been watching YouTube Billboard chart countdown videos every week for like the last 4 years. I don't think I've ever seen a song from her in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. So I had no idea how big star she's supposed to be. I assumed she was a former Disney Channel or Nickelodeon star.
I just mentioned Carrie as an example off the top of my head because of that song she did with Ludacris. lol. She's won a lot of grammys, CMAs and has performed on a few mainstream shows like for instince The Today Show gave her her own summer concert show for their Summer Concert Series they do. So yeah she is one of these what I like to call a 'celebrity artist' that the mainstream media and entertaintment industry promote a lot. But she is one of these celebrity artist that can actually sing and have talent. I like her song 'butterflies'.
All I know about her is she won Album of the Year at the Grammys a few years and everyone thought it was racist BS cause by no metric that is normal could she have won given her low name recognition and low sales.
Thing was that album was one of the most acclaimed of the year and was on about every critic's Top Ten end of the year lists. What it lacked of course was the sort of commercial success that often comes with just those who get nominated. But then again a little over a decade ago Herbie Hancock won the same award for an album two people at most had even heard of. It happens. No doubt the Grammys have a race issue though and you would have thought black folks would have started a Grammy-focused hashtag campaign like the #OscarSoWhite one targeting the Academy Awards. Black folks definitely have a greater claim on the music end (both historically and now) than they do when it comes to cinema. But there is relatively little outrage. For example this should have been the Weeknd's year across the board and yet he didn't garner a single nomination, something that a couple of prominent newspapers claimed as the biggest and most unjust snub in Grammy history. Where was the outrage by Black Twitter at least? Oh, that's right. They hate him because he's not fucking black women I guess.
