A lot of the Jews that were affected by the holocaust are dying of old age along with the men and women who survived WW2 in modern time. They are slowly moving on. I barely ever hear about the holocaust until ww2 is mentioned. Most countries really didn't care about the Jews. England declared war because of poland. Russia declared war because germany betrayed them and we got bomb by the japs.

They didn't "confuse race and ethnicity back then". Race was and is a social construct. It's not based in science, although there were many pseudo science justifications used for racism.

During WWII, jewish people petitioned the world to be defined as a race so that the world would better understand that genocide was taking place.

When flaming talks about people "becoming white" that is absolutely accurate. White has always been defined in this country as the entitled group. Irish were initially excluded ("white irish are white" -- as opposed to black irish, who aren't white? Of course they are). The first slave ships brought over irish slaves. Irish people were segregated from "white" people.

Today's understanding of "whiteness" is more "open tent" but it is no more scientifically accurate. If it were, biracial people would be considered white.

Jewish people have *not* gotten past the holocaust, nor should they. The phrase most used in the community is "never forget". If you're going to learn from the people, that's the first thing to learn.

And his point about madoff went over people's heads, but was correct as well: the Jewish community was hit hard by the Madoff scandal, as he robbed individual regular jewish people, jewish leaders, jewish insitutions, jewish charities and some individually wealthy jewish people as well. Not all of Madoff's victims were jewish, but he hit jewish people hard.
