I like these stereotypes. When I look at members of my own family on both sides, especially my mothers, I've yet to see any sneaky relatives. I think they've all busted their ass in school and attained whatever level of success they had through hard work and determination.

I also don't come from money on either end. My grandparents came to this country with nothing, but worked their asses off to provide for their family, especially 6 kids in my mothers family.

I remember one of my counselors at PSU sitting me down, and asking me whether or not one of my professors was giving me poor grades, just because I was black and he was white. I kindly explained to her no and blamed it on laziness.

The problem is something happened between the times of CJ Walker.George Washington Carver,black wall street and the 90's that really separated black people. I don't know if it was drugs,embracing thug lifestyle or whatever.There are a lot of successful blacks. But there should be more and the communities should be better.

 

I'm surprised we have as many as we do considering the divisive nature of slavery that kept light skin and dark skin at odds with one another.
And the success we have isn't much to be proud of until we learn how to flip the black dollar better. It all goes back to self esteem and not that psuedo black power bullshit but just taking pride in your work and doing your best despite whenre you come from or what your skin color is.

Which brings me to my next point...

I know that slavery has done massive amount of damage the Af-American community/culture but we need to take initiative and move forward to make things happen just as any and everyone else does to the best of our ability.

I thank God my parents have done so, considering their circumstances at birth, and I will make sure I do the same for myself and my potential children I may bring into this society.

I know it's hard to do, especially for others, but we have no choice but to move forward and give it our best.

Although I feel some of problems people in the Af-Am face come from what the parents provide and instill, we as individuals must think for ourselves at some point and make decisions that will not only benefit us, but those that we may bring into this Earth at some point later in life.

There are a lot of factors involved in each person's "success" but the key attributes always include discipline, diligence and passion, and the ability to adapt to your surroundings and the challenges you're faced with.
