Wow, the eternal optimist. I don't think even I could have seen slavery and "the ride over" in any kind of positive light. Wow. :smt085

 

The guy is taking that scripture that says to be thankful in all a bit too far, it does not say to be thankful for all.

You can have an attitude of gratitude in any situation, it does not mean it's a good situation.

The ends do not justify the means!

Just because God can turn horrible things into good for us, does not mean He orchestrated the horrible things.

The assumption people like that make is that this nation is great and we should be thankful we are here instead of somewhere else; which neglects the fact that black Americans are a major reason why this nation still exists in the first place. History books rarely discuss our contributions in the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Civil War (contrary to popular belief, black folks played a significant role in securing their own freedom...through spirited combat)...Spanish-American War (not as much), World War I, World War II etc....the plethora of inventions...ahem...thank you black folks for air conditioning (no surprise we invented that) and freezers on trains/trucks that could deliver food long distances...the potato chip...hell...blacks folks have helped to keep Americans cool from the heat, fat with frozen meat, happy during football games when they can dip their chips in Mexican dip!

 

And you wonder why there can never be any civility in political discourse these day .......

Seriously, i've learned not to take "people" like this clown seriously. The less i listen to him, the better it is.

 

His choice of words may not exactly make you feel comfortable, but truth be told, I would like to know which of you would trade his upbringing in the US for an upbringing on the African continent?

I have met a lot of Africans who have had excellent childhoods and families, including a teenager from Angola who is spending Christmas with my family this year. Let's face it though, 9 out of 10 you and your heirs will fare much better in America in terms of freedom and opportunity.

I also would point out that this doesn't only include Africa, you could say that about any number of countries/continents whose people migrated to the US.

 

To say it is great to be an American doesn't mean he is thanking the white man for all he has, does it?
As you said, blacks have had a role just like others in building the country.

Americas early economy was primarily dependent on slave labor

without it,i doubt america would have progressed as fast it did(or at all)

Cause we both know,the whites wernt going to get out theire and get their hands dirty

 

Jessie Lee Peterson is one of those people who would have cried his eyes out that slavery was over. I'm sure that he would've been like: "what we gonna do now?" "How we gonna think for ourselves?" Who's gonna take care of me?" "I just can't carry on without my massa?"

He would've stayed on the plantation and continued to work for free while many others would've enjoyed their newfound freedom.:smt009
