Alot of controversy has come about because of the VOGUE cover with Lebron & Gisele Bundchen & while some of it has been blown out of proportion in my opinion I do agree with Bro Jamal Spunky in that Jamie Lee Curtis & Willie Gault did it better back in the day so here's their cover pic...
noble, you are the shit. Good job, friend. And yes that's what I call a cover! Mainstream mags, even nearly 20 years later, still don't have the guts to do something like that. But, man, a few months later when I read the letter page in response to that cover....wow! And that was the tame, non-hateful stuff that they could print. A cover like that brings out a lot of insecurity in people (particulary two groups of people). Gotta save this image. May not see another like it in my lifetime at this rate. Certainly that silly Vogue cover doesn't compare.
I may agree to disagree with a lot of people on the boards sometimes, but one thing is for sure.. noble is the fukin man.. where did he pull that cover up from ..and sadly, what you said is true. A lot of MAINSTREAM mags (the ones seen by millions of people...not Peanut the Barber back in the Hood) don't have the guts to do something as sexual provocative as that...
Thanks for the compliments Jamal & pettyoj 'cause I really had to search to pull up that one but it was worth it :!: Too bad Jamie never went to black (as far as we know of anyway) because she seems the type & would tell HOLLYWEIRD or anyone else to go screw themselves if they didn't like it too.
Nice work Noble! I've heard about that infamous cover from, strangely enough, one of these IR forums. I never saw the cover in person. Maybe cause of where I was living. But I've always been the same person. If I had seen it when it first came out, I would have only seen it as it was presented and not in a sexual way. And Jamal is right on. There are alot of insecure people out there, even to this day.
This is news to me. I have never see Jamie Lee pose like that before. Like the Gisele/LeBron overblown deal, I don't see anything wrong with that either. It's a little erotic, but nothing more. Her never dating outside her race doesn't mean that she is racist, which she is clearly not. I thought she was very hot in Trading Places, and I always thought of her as very sexy, even now.
I don't think anyone is calling Jamie Lee racist if she hadn't dated a black man before. Where did that come from? And the Gisele/LeBron photo does not make sense for the cover of Vogue. period. Its not a good fit. Maybe it would work for a Rolling Stone "Hot Issue" or such. But for Vogue? I can imagine chicks getting their Vogue in the mail and seeing that cover and trying to figure out what the hell the magazine was before realizing it was Vogue. And not just because there was a man (a black man in fact) on the cover but because it just looked so absurd and totaly unrelated to fashion. I did part time work at a book store for four years. I was in charge of a huge magazine section. I've seen too many covers for women's fashion magazines, more than I ever cared to see. And the LeBron-Gizelle debacle may be the worst that I can recall.
Hey Mike no disrepect but no one was saying that she was a racist at all. As a matter of fact Jamie Lee seems like the type that would go black but just maybe never did because she was happy the with man that she did find that's her hubby who is white.
Actually I have seen big time models pose with black male celebrities/black male models in all sorts of compromising positions. But they tend to be for pictures buried inside a magazine. "W" magazine had one famous blonde model posing half naked with a bunch of black athletes for some New Orleans shoot (saw stuff like that all the time when I worked in the book store), Rolling Stone had some downright sexy pictures involving Andre 3000 and Kate Moss (who never looked hotter) and of course Sports Illustrated had Heidi Klum about ten yeaars ago posing in a swimsuit with a few black male athletes too. But you never see stuff like that on a cover. And you especially don't see it on covers of magazines that target a female readership.
Jeez man, Noble you,'re the freaking man. How on earth do you remember shit like this? You truly are the king of IR. By the way, where and when did this spread come out? And did they get hate for it?
bo knows  as famous as he was back in his day, I wouldn't doubt it.. he was one of the few professional cross-over athletes, who was good in both sports.... I remember watching Deion playing baseball also.. they knew a guy that fast, would be stealing bases left and right back on topic tho.. I do not know who bo posed with, or the date of the issue.
Noble is the 'King of IR'. Keep up the good work. I think its safe to say everyone on this site truly enjoys your participation.
Hey, noble may be king but I was the one who brought the cover to his attention (that's why he included my post at the bottom of picture itself). Give me some credit. This cover came out around 20 years ago, actually maybe 1990. And if you check out my previous comments in this thread you'll have your answer about the type of responses the CableGuide magazine got.
Yeah LC it was Bro Jamal that gave me the spark to do the pic research but I really don't remember them getting alot of flack over the cover if any & nowhere near anything like Lebron's Vanity Fair fiasco :!: But I appreciate the compliments from you, HellSpawn, pettyoj, SoCal & others on my pic posting and research. As you can tell it's sort of an internet hobbie/fetish  of mine plus this board has helped me to really step up my IR game in the real world where it counts.
