I've never heard that. I don't look down on live action films(they kick ass). If you're talking about live adaptations of anime, then yes, anime fans look down on them, for good reason.(hell, any most fans of anything that isn't originally a movie). Game to film, film to game, anime to film ALWAYS suck. People knew the DBZ movie as gonna suck the day it as announced, and well......it blew ass. Keanu Reeves is staring in the live version of Cowboy Bebop, and fans are skeptical about that, as well. Knowing live adaptations of anything will suck ass is standard procedure.

There are some some anime nerds(Japanophiles) that think everything from Japan is better than American shit, even when they've never been to Japan. I'm not one of those anime fans.

I have an English-dubbed version of a Taiwanese life-action Dragon Ball movie from '91. Trust me, it's cheesy as hell.

Back in high school, I would sometimes bring old Jackie Chan and Chow Yun Fat movies to show at lunch sometimes. I brought Sonny Chiba movies and Jet Li's Fist of Legend. I figured since the were anime fans, they would like these films. But they just couldn't get into them, nor cared. Keep in mind, these were dweebs. Once someone brought anime, it became a whol different game. Even in college and post-college, I brought martial arts films when going over to friends, some people scoffed at them, when they popped in Fatal Fury (anime), they couldn't get enough.

It's cool if you like anime, but some people take it to the extreme. I'm sure you don't dress up like the characters everyday...like a few overgrown 30+ y.o. geeks.

Damn, those fools really do give anime fans a bad name. I thought those films were popular among everybody, back in the day.

It's a little different with the current generation. Japanophiles, weeabos, whatever ya wanna call them worship anything Japanese, and almost anything Asian, including the live action thing. They go as far as to buy these expensive chocolate dipped breadstick things called "Pocky" at conventions. I don't have much of a problem with cosplaying, but it's the behavior that is associated with it, and anime fans, in general. They act like little fucking kids, when they are dressed up. Fuckin' 15, 20, 25 year olds. And fangirls/fanboys are the WORST. They squee(girly squeel/scream) and cream at anything a voice actor says at panels. And they ask the most retarded questions at the panels. "Can you say 'I love you', in Ed Elric's voice? Can I have a hug? How do you feel about the yaoi pairing of so and so?" The fans actually buy and make gifts for these voice actors, too. Like shirts and pants, that took a lot of work.

And don't even get me started on the lack of hygiene the anime conventions are famous for.

Pocky's not bad. You can get them at your grocery store in the 'Ethnic foods aisle' for 3 bucks.

Like anything, the new jacks give everything a bad name as they come with a know-it-all mindset. I went to a Comic-Con 4 years ago and it was really bad. Worse than the Trekkie/Star Wars fans. Also, not to mention that most of the 30+ geeks are white boys who will screw anything Asian. I've seen this stuff first hand.

Because most guys are heterosexual! :p

I don't much dig the live-action stuff either when there is an anime version. It doesn't have to be Asian, too. I think Heros in tights is pretty wacky, but in the comics it doesn't bug me so much. Spawn looks dope in the comics, but on screen is just....icky. Same with Batman. The fight scenes can be exagerated in toons without ever coming close to looking like some person is attached to wires... If you've seen any of the recent Gundam Igloo series, you can also see that a lot of the effects just doesn't translate too well into 3d... I'm not even sure the high-end special effects companies like Weta could do it justice..the anime has beautiful scenes, though..
