I agree, Ms. Jenny. The whole thing is so heartbreaking & sickening, & I don't understand why it's not getting more coverage. The so-called justice system better not let those assholes get away with what they did to him. Hearing it described as an "alleged" hate crime/murder pisses me off.
The teen, just 18 years old, has been charged with murder and now faces a possible double life sentence. Calls to Deryl Dedmon's attorney have gone unanswered. Sickening. Why are the calling them "teens"?? They are 18 and last I heard that is an adult. I hope they don't go easy on them implying they are youths/children.
THIS is how the media makes subtle stabs which discredit victims. How many times are rape victims said to have "claimed" to be raped and described as women while their 20 year old college age attackers are referred to as "boys"...the same thing is going on here. This kind of crap goes on all over the place in news media, and people miss it - they just absorb the message. You can bet your ass if some 14 year old black kids had done this to a white man, they would be "charged as an adult." Sickening.
Tam - totally agree with you; this makes me feel especially sick that they use the word "alleged" hate crime/murder. They have it on videotape for crying out loud. I know it's in Mississippi but there are "red necks" every where, not just in the south. Sadly, this could have happened in any state. I can't understand why more people aren't outraged about this.
Honestly really. They are playing semantics with the words. You know they are going to go easy on them. People who behave as animals shouldn't be treated like innocent children. They should be locked in cages like animals.
Either way, by law, they will be charged as adults, regardless of the wording. They should all be locked up for life with no parole.
People like us need to understand that we have been living in 'post-racial' America since November 2008, things like this rarely happened in the past and certainly never happen now. Feeling sarcastic today. This is not a Kim Kardashian 'endorsed' story, so it doesn't really matter, Ms. Jenny. James Craig Anderson gets videotaped being killed, rather than having sex with her, not a good way to reach the American psyche. Smh...there is something deeply wrong with our society. Things that matter such as the right to live and love and be free to exist should matter but, mindless people and issues is what the mainstream media covers.
