It's OK to want to Be Black but not White?

    1) Blacks can make fun of whites because whites do nothing to stop it. Some whites will complain about this but if one is too much of a chicken shit to stand up for themselves than it will continue.

    2) WET....hmmm.....what's the point....no one stops them from doing it except themselves. If David Duke came up with this new network, I can guarantee that white liberals will be more upset than about 1/2 the black population. Blacks in general control very little of the media (really none) so any negative backlash would have to come from whites........again they are too chicken-shit to go through with it

    3) I don't know many black women who get on Halle and Beyonce....Beyonce is curvy so she "keeps it real" plus she's a good singer so they like the fact that she got where she is because of her voice and not her skin. Halle despite being biracial has maintained that she is black and so she earns points in the minds of some BW. The movie scene is hard to explain though.

    4) Whites don't get tans to be "black" or "african american"...they do it because a little tanning makes you looks healthy (according to some whites) and it can be a sign of wealth since many upper class people spend time on boats and at the beach. Pale skin has never been seen as "healthier" than darker skin so that would not be a reason for wanting to have light skin. With Michael Jackson...we know he has issues with his blackness (more than just a vitaligo problem). He and many of his siblings have had issues with their very prototypical "Negro" features. Their surgeries haven't enhanced their natural characteristics but actually drowned them out. Self hatred is different than vanity.

    5) Many white kids will call other whites corny for acting "hip-hop" the same way that black kids will berate other blacks for acting "preppy." Kids can have a narrow MTV view of the world and they have been told that certain races act a certain way and that any wide deviation from that is abnormal. Youngsters can't hesitate to point out something that is different from what they have been conditioned to expect.

    6) Most blacks who are proud to be black are proud of the fact they come from a group that has struggled so much...lost their languages and culture and yet still survived. Whites who say this aren't really proud to be white so much as they believe they are superior to other races. Someone had a good example earlier when talking about Irish, Italians etc.

    7) We had a story in Dallas about 2 high school girls who got Confederate flag purses for Christmas and were in conflict with the school over the girls right to bring them (the school was 95% white and the majority of the rest were Hispanic...go figure). They argued that their forebears fought for the "stars and bars" and they were just trying showing the pride in their heritage. Let's not forget that their ancestors were essentially committing treason. I have a good example that will put this in perspective: Let's say that I get married to a girl who is from Saudi Arabia.....her father was a member of Al-Qaeda and he was one of the terrorist hijackers during 9/11. Now this girl and I have a son and he wants to walk around wearing Al-Qaeda gear. He is not doing it to offend anyone..he just wants to show pride in his heritage. Enslaving over 10 million people and stripping them of EVERYTHING deserves to be immortalized in a flag but killing 2,000+ people in a hijacking should be looked at with a lot less enthusiasm. Panther and African pride symbols don't stand for anything remotely close to this. :smt066

    Peyback:

Thats why I believe there should be NO reparations! Its clear that the white population owes us nothing. they gave some of Us affirmative action, free education, social programs, etc. for the last 40 years and thats enough. Now we have blacks calling each other the N word on records and television. we have dave chappell making fun of the usage of the word and the realities that black folk use welfare for more than getting on their feet.

the problem is guilty white liberals that feel some guilt for slavery that they try and appease the black masses with gifts, but no real equality or integration(they dont even use the word anymore). the problem is also so called black leaders(lets call them Black Drivers of the Plantation). they are there to keep the field Negroes(the black masses-70% of the population) voting for one party, acting like victims, bowing to the government for help, and complaining when they get it or dont get it.

there is a double standard but its because the negro has become a character image. now he is captive to the prison, welfare handout state, with no sense of family structure. this is the mass of blacks that gets portrayed to the white majority and propped up by the likes of Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson.

Notice they dont show the strong black upper class that came from Frederick Douglas, Dubois, B. T. Washington. They only show the civil rights leaders of the 50s and 60s and then the black militants of the 70s and the hip hop/gangsta rap of the contemporary times. They are afraid of the black man with a degree, with generations of hardworking, educated families, with the black families who have always owned their homes, businesses, and have strong communities. they dont want you to know about the history of stable blacks. the fraternities, the social clubs like Jack and Jills/the links and 100 black men. they dont tell you about the black Harvards like Howard, Morehouse, Spellman, and Meharry.

each time I hear about issue of black people--its always about us complaining, protesting and attackign each other or whining about the Man. how about regular stories of regular black families doing regular things? there are plenty of stories.

    stories of the greats like:

    Ben Carson
    Althea Gibson
    Gen Ben O DAvis
    Condi Rice
    JC WAtts
    the black upper class
    the black middle class
    Madame CJ Walker
    the reconstruction black Senators
    Ralph Ellison
    Edward Brooke-Senator from Mass
    teh black Republicans

no they benefit from keeping field negroes in teh dark--the drivers and the plantation masters

"Pride" does not equal "supremacy". I am proud to be white. It would be disrespectful to my mother and father if I was not proud of my culture.

I also make a conscious effort to study and understand my whiteness and the privilege that it awards me. When someone does not acknowledge their whiteness they are assuming that whiteness and white culture is the norm.

A great book of essays called: White Privilege: Essential readings on the other side of racism edited by Paula S. Rothenburg says:

"...whiteness has often gone unnamed and unexamined because it has been uncritically and unthinkingly adopted as the norm throughout society."

"Like whiteness, white privilege has often been invisible to those who benefit from it most...(w)hite people have a hard time accepting the idea of white privilege because they have been benefiting from it for so long that they can no longer distinguish between their privilege and their sense of who they are."

A white person who truly understands (or attempts to understand) how being white affects their life stops blaming themselves for being white. I understand that throughout history my ancestors have been afforded a privilege and because of this, I need to use these privileges to work against racism. For example, I LOVE meeting hoity-toity, upper-middle class, suburban white folks and tell them that I work at an inner city public school. I am a real live educated, professional white woman standing before them dispelling the myths that they have heard with my own first-hand experiences.

P.S. Tanning was not en vogue in the days of field hands and aristocracy. It was fashionable to be pale because it meant that you were wealthy and had hired hands to do outdoor labor. Think parasols and quite pale Queen Elizabeth. (spoken from a girl who does not tan because it is damaging to the skin, but an occasional sunless tanner - I am quite light-skinDed)

Some folks just don't get it this whole thread is based on stereotypes of how people of color and whites should act.

Not proud to be Black<< I didnt do anything to make myself black,so i cant take any award for creating color. I like being black however, it is all I know and i am very comfortable with it. It doesnt make me better or worse than anyone else. I am proud to be an american, proud to be a republican, proud of what i do to help the poor and the environment, proud of my parents and family, proud of my home state

Tell me about it. They just turned it into a blame fest about how blacks are this and whites are that.

Based on what tuck claims, because of our freedom and equal rights, we now don't need reparations, when we should've had freedom and equal rights from the start. Our accomplishments now don't make up for the past, nor constitute as reparations, and since there is a large black population of people actually in need of help, but can't get it because of discrimination and racism, there is a need for reparations.

Where in my posts did I say I was ashamed to be black? Now if i get all mad and defensive tucker will reprimand me for attacking people LOL. Anyways, all I said when I started this thread was that I have noticed in my life that blacks are too sensitive when they get criticized and that its ok for us to bash whites but when they do it to us we get all pissed. Now if that sounds like I'm defending whites or calling out blacks for their hypocrisy then so what? Because I am black I must defend blacks in ALL we do (even if i don't approve of it)? Because I'm black I must condone things that I see as wrong because I'm black? NO! I wont.

When I see something wrong I will speak on it. That is who I am. Does that mean I am ashamed to be black? NO. That is the stupidest and most idiotic thing I have ever heard!!!! This proves my point exactly. A black man questions whether or not it is fair that we constantly dump on white people for sh*t that happened 200 years ago, and I AM CALLED "ashamed to be black" and a "house negro". Wow. How closed minded and ignorant are you all? Tony tony, Injera70, thechosen1 should learn that if we do not learn from our past we are doomed to repeat it. But I guess you all believe that if we keep dumping on whites that everything will be okay and racism will die? Ever thought that if everyone was just nice to each other and stopped blaming one another for our problems then that's when racism will die? Get a brain before you speak to me people!.....thanks!

Heres another example of what this thread is REALLY ABOUT (since I started it):

How many times have we seen on tv (especially on MTV's show MADE) a white kid who wants to learn how to rap or dress and act black or "hip hop"? This is the IN thing. We see it all the time. Does this mean he is ASHAMED OF BEING WHITE? And if so are we GLAD because we have this simmering hate for whites and want them to feel bad for all they have put blacks through?

Why do we not see a show where a black kid wants to hang with a bunch of white girls, dress "white", play rock music, and all that? And if we did how would you all feel? You would all say about him what you said about me. What you say about Michael Jackson. House Negro. Oreo. Ashamed to be black. Well all of you are hypocrites and in the same boat. By coming to this site, you admit you LOVE white women. Are you aware everytime you and I walk the street with a white woman, someone (black or white) is calling us an OREO or house negro or ashamed to be black? And we would call them ignorant right? OK then. So how do you all think you sound? What make sit ok for a white kid to want to act black or be black, but its AWFUL and shows "self hatred" for a black kid who wants to act white or look white and date white women?

I saw a movie a few months ago on TV about this white kid from the south who wanted to become a rapper and all this friends were black (no it wasn't 8 mile) and he ended up failing but everyone throughout the movie kept asking him why he talked and dressed and acted black and why he seemed ashamed to be white? He ignored them and could never answer and got defensive whenever they did and just walked away. At the end of the film in a voice over he finally said he knew why he was ashamed of being white.

He felt whites committed so many crimes in humanity, from "discovering" America and stealing the land from the Native Americans, to slavery, to "creating" poverty and keeping blacks in it (even though there are more whites in poverty than blacks, due to the fact that blacks only make up 13% of the U.S., hence us being called a MINORITY), and corrupt politics and civil rights and the KKK and all the wars in the world and everything else. he felt blacks were good people and whites were evil and he admired our strength to get through all our struggles and "come up in the game".

Do whites look down on him the way blacks might look down on Michael Jackson or someone who says I am ashamed to be black because too many of them are lazy, criminals, ugly, and uneducated thugs who have the wrong goals in what is important in life? I truly believe we are all on this site due to our love of white women and the fact that we love white women so much and not our own is because there IS something about our own race we do not like and something about the white race we do like. To deny that is idiotic and I came to that realization a long time ago and it is time for you all to admit it too. To act like we all think that being black is the best thing in the world is pure denial and lies if you all say it. The whole point of this thread is to show the hypocrisy and double standards us blacks have when it comes to acceptance. ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!! WHY CAN WHITES TAN AND LIKE HIP HOP AND IT BE COOL, BUT IF A BLACK WANTS TO GET LIGHTER OR LISTEN TO COUNTRY MUSIC WE MAKE FUN OF HIM?????? HOW IS THAT FAIR!???

Based on the typical contents of your posts, it's fairly obvious that you are.

    You're doing it right now.

Oh, I see. So,your life experiences reflect how all whites and blacks feel about one another?

This is stupid. You are defending whites for their hypocrisies, but condemning blacks for theirs just because they are black.

So, if we speak out on what's wrong with white racism, it's stupid and idiotic? To me, that's stupid and idiotic of you to say. And, yet, we are treated to another hissy fit from you.

No, you didn't. You didn't ask questions about 'what's fair'. Re-read your original post. Also, since you have trouble with correlation (obviously) you wouldn't understand that the comments directed at you weren't because of your questions about 'fairness', but because of the comments you make about black racism versus white racism.

Maybe you should open your mind, before throwing hissy fits about how close-minded someone else is.

Try telling this to all the white racists/supremacists worldwide, and see if they don't still try to castrate you, or throw up behind bars or something, if they don't just lie to your face. I guess you believe that if blacks just accept 'blame' for everything, the racism will die, right?

You sure do live in la-la land. This is will NEVER happen, and it's way too basic of a vision to manifest.

You can borrow one of ours. Just ask and you shall receive.

Tucker I wasn't talking to you. I was addressing sardonic, injera70, the chosen one, and tony tony. I said it in my post. I only mentioned you when I said you might reprimand me for attacking people because you did it the last time I defended myself after people ONCE again called me a liar or ashamed to be black (but I guess according to you that isn't being attacked, and I'm sure you would like that said about you). My post was not directed at you at all. Now sardonic please remind me how in all of my posts it is obvious that im ashamed to be black because i don't see it. But you are soo smart so please enlighten on me on how I FEEL ABOUT MYSELF since I am so eager to know.

Second of all when did i defend white hypocrisy or white racism? How stupid do you sound? WHERE did i defend racism or even mention white racism? I do not see where I mentioned that. You have great ex-ray vision to see things that aren't there. Or maybe since you cannot win the argument you create something that wasn't even written to change to topic to. It is crazy man! You just love putting words in my mouth and have so little intelligence that you consistently miss the point of my posts and join them only to spew hate and bash me for no other reason other than the fact that you either do not like me for some reason or you are so insecure in yourself that you need someone to pick on to make yourself feel like more of a man (which is rather pathetic and everyone can see it). It is almost hilarious how badly you do not even get the whole point of this thread.

Third of all, I am not injecting MY life experiences into saying that it is the same for everyone. It is not just my life. The things I have mentioned are not small coincidences that have only happened to me. They are TRUE FACTS. Not opinions. Did I just dream that people call Michael Jackson a self hating sellout for lightening his skin? Yea I dint think so. Be quiet. Did I just imagine the fact that there is TV show after TV show and movie after movie about white people acting black (because they believe it is cool) and society promotes it, but we never see blacks openly trying to be white because they know they will be made fun of? The whole point of this thread was to show that America tries to make being black the IN thing to be but being white or wanting to be white is seen as self hate. Why is it self hate? WHO said being black is the cool thing to be? What is so great about it?

I see what you mean but re-read it. You must have thought i meant "if i get all mad, then DEFENSIVE TUCKER will reprimand me". But no, i didnt mean it that way.

Interesting topic. I read all 3 pages :)
Here there is not any "black culture" unless we see 50c or somebody on TV or in movies from the USA.
I think Peyback has some points. And I think it isnt nice and is nasty to say he is ashamed to be black, you all wouldnt like this to be said to you :?

I think what MistressB said about one culture being from a majority and the other from a minority is the answer to all of the questions. After such time together of races being mixed this majority-minority mix has happened and it appears in different form. There is black history month in the USA and with peyback's argument you could ask "why is there no white history month" ? it is because the rest, the majority of education is already white so there is no need. And there are many other forms, like peyback asked about BET a black entertainment channel?? (i havent heard of it) and why is there no WET?? and like Sardonic said, because the majority of television is already white so there is no need for anything specific to be white.
I think such black activities stand out more because they are for the minority and NEED to be named BLACK history month and BLACK.ET etc where things that are white do not stand out because they are in the majoritys hands and so are called education not white education, TV channels not white TV channels etc.
So you say good points Peyback! but as I have said similar to other people I think the answer is all about majority vs minority, not as clear as this but however long it takes to look back, this is what it will return to 8)

Thanks Sup I agree with you as well. You make alot of really good points. USA culture is so predominantly white in everything, the music, the media, TV, movies, news, politics, the history books, etc., that stuff like Black History month and BET is necessary. They also have hispanic history month and other designated months for certain races to help show that they care about the heritage of the many minorities that continue to flood this nation and make it operate.

Personally I think it all comes down to the fact that as much progress as we have made, most people of all races still see it as black vs. white like this is some kind of big war. And if one person "switches sides" that they are betraying their team or their country. From that perspective I can see how one person would look at a black person who tries to act white as a sellout. But then why do whites not see white people who act black as sellouts? Many think it is cool. That is my question and the point of this whole thread. (Although I find it funny how "smart people" like Sardonic try to come in here and TELL ME what the original point of MY THREAD is about LOL)

The thing is that black vs. white perspective is wrong. We are all ONE race. The HUMAN race. Many blacks have this notion of us against the world and "you are either with us or with them". They have this feeling that white will never truly accept us and therefore we need to stick together or "THEY will win". I feel that there is no THEY and there is nothing to win. If white people wanna act black then so be it, I love it. If black people wanna act white then I have no problem with it, I love it, so be it. Why should people feel ashamed of that?
