He is stupid for making the comment. That guy got too comfortable with his position at work and didn't use enough humility in the situation. Ah well, maybe next time.

I would not be surprised if he was sacked. I like for him to stay on that show but he did not shut his mouth and the end result would be his expulsion. No question his character would die or dissapear.

Hmmm I wonder what is going to happen... if he is sacked I am certain (or at least I hope) they will bring back another hot BM to fill in the gap, I just hope it is not Taye Diggs (aka show killer ha ha ha).

Isaiah got the official ax last week.

And I don't know what you've got against Taye. His co-star on the "Grey's" spin-off, Tim Daly, has had FOUR shows tank. "Wings," "The Fugitive," "Eyes," and "The Nine." The last two were in two consecutive seasons, one in mid-plotline yet nobody's calling him a show killer.

Why does the white guy get a break?

Oh my FUCKING God, you are not going to make this about race now, are you?

Taye is hot but I don't like him as an actor... Oooooh call me racist, damn it.

I knew it was a matter of "when" that this guy would get the boot. The gay mafia in Hollywood weren't having none of his ish.

at least they did not kill him off...there is still a chance they will bring him back during sweeps...it is also possible that he will sue...because it was the show & the network that encouraged him to go into counseling, make a public apology and do public service announcements for the gay community...
a friend of mine that i had dinner with in vegas last week knows isaiah...he got the impression that this is not over...

The producers are pay Knight a six figure salery. As for Isaiah he was shafted since he did those ps annoucements and apologies. If he was so bad why did they fire him earlier?

  12. fnnysmrtprtty

    fnnysmrtprtty New Member

Because they were waiting to see if the reaction over his comments would die down after he did those things. Apparently not.

he was let go because he was a black man and having stupid bitches like katherine heigl pour oil into the fire did not help him, he apologised and was prob the best character on the show, the way he played his role was deep, complex and was something only he could have done. Above all else his character on the show was a fantastic representation for black men. Now the gay mafia has forced him out after making him do countless apologies I will certainly not be watching this show anymore.
Katherine heigl is also someone I will never be supporting in future.

I agree with your positive comments about him and the show. But are you suggesting that he was let go b/c he is black? I'm just thinking that if TR Knight had unloaded the N word he wouldn't have been treated any differently - especially considering the Don Imus situation.

    Oooh where to start???

He was not let go because he is black, he was let go because he could not keep his stupid mouth shut with his homophobic comments. The first time (the incident on set) he could have gotten away with, the 2nd time at the press conference after the award show was just stupid beyond measure.

His role and character on the show was nice, but DEEP? Come on, what about that show is deep? It's light entertainment that at times gets really goofy (Vajayjay anyone)? I love the show but deep? Naaaa

    "Gay Mafia"????
There are certain things you don't say, certain words you don't use. If you say them the "gay mafia" has every right to chase your ass out of town.
Katherine Heigl, more than anyone, has my support since she did the right thing and spoke up against something that is wrong (unlike the majority of the cast or Shonda Rhimes for that matter).

What is the deal with his 2nd comment? He blurted out some statement refuting his earlier statement? I was never clear on that situation.

I do the think the show is deep sometimes - think about Denny dying or Meredith's psuedo suicide attempt, the story line about Christina helping Burke in his surgeries after his injuries, the chief of staff's wife miscarrying in the bathroom. That' s what makes the show so good is the dichotomy of the heavy themes compared to the off-the-wall vajayjay moments.

After the awards (I think Golden Globes or so) they all stood up for photos and questions and some reporter asked Isiah about the incident
His response "I never called him a f-word, I never used it" or something to that effect. So basically he denied calling him that (which we know was a lie) while at the same time using the word again. Which IMHO just shows that this must be part of his daily lingo and view of gays and lesbians.

Agree at times the show attempts to be deep, I just don't think they really achieve it as there are to many overtones of goofyness, however that is just my opinion and I agree someone else might see the show as being deeper.

ISAIAH WASHINGTON AND GAYS, ABC AND BLACKS..LET THE HEALING BEGIN
    By Jasmyne A. Cannick
    [IMG]

Okay, so the word is out that ABC "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington won't be back for its fourth season and I'll edit myself by saying that I think that the decision to nix Dr. Burke is ummm---baloney and just adds to a disturbing new trend at ABC wherein minority actors have been given the boot left and right. But moreover, it sends a clear message Black actors accused of being homophobic, no matter true or not, will more than likely not be given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to redeem themselves.

    Isaiah and the Gays

I am a Black lesbian, so I feel I have just as much right to add my two cents in on what Isaiah's fate should have been.

While no one will come right out and say it, Isaiah's dismissal from "Grey's Anatomy" has everything to do with the media's portrayal of him as this angry Black man who can't get along with anyone and hates gay people. It has everything to do with an altercation that most of America didn't witness (have you seen a YouTube.com clip because I haven't?). It has to do with a group of people who think that they have the right to be judge and jury over Isaiah Washington's fate simply because they are gay.

And while they will never admit to it, believe me, from day one when the story broke, they've been figuring out a way to make this man lose his job and will use his dismissal to raise even more money for their multi-million dollar non-profit organization under the guise that they took care of business as it related to Isaiah.

It's a fact that Isaiah has been the target of an orchestrated campaign focused on getting him fired from "Grey's Anatomy" since the incident with his co-stars was unleashed in the media. So what did Washington do when the furor was too loud to ignore? He apologized, went to "therapy," and went on to perform community service by way of a public service announcement for the very organization that if you ask me, lent a helping hand in his dismissal. Which I will tell you is way more than I would have done. But alas, it seems it wasn't enough after all.

    But the plot thickens.

Not only has Isaiah been dismissed from a hit television series, but there seems to be some agreement between writers in the media to make sure that he never works again with various news stories reporting that he's angry, he's mean, he's difficult to work with, people are scared of him, and the other typical [insert expletive here] that non-Black people say about Black people the minute we have an opinion that differs from theirs. Ask me how I know?

At the end of the day, Isaiah has done more for the gay community than T.R. Knight has done in or out of the closet and it's not just the gay community either. Isaiah has been extremely supportive of the issue of HIV/AIDS in the African American community not just with his time but with his checkbook as well. How many heterosexual Black actors can we say that about?

As far as I'm concerned, the hypocrisy in the gay leadership has reached new levels with this one. On the one hand, it's all about changing attitudes and working with people but on the other hand, nothing is ever good enough. So basically, once you're labeled a homophobe, you're labeled that for life, even if it isn't true and even if you do everything you're asked to in an effort to make amends and apologize for something you may or may not have done in the first place.

    ABC and Blacks

From all of the reports that I've read, "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes, an African American woman, was pleased with Isaiah's acting and performance on the show. It wasn't her decision to can Dr. Burke, it was ABC's.

Minority actors have been dismissed at an alarming rate over the past two years over at ABC. Blacks, including Isaiah Washington ("Grey's Anatomy"), Star Jones ("The View"), Harold Perrineau ("Lost"), Alfre Woodard and Mehcad Brooks ("Desperate Housewives") have been let go. But it's not just Blacks, add to that "The George Lopez Show" and out lesbian Rosie O'Donnell of "The View." Not to mention actress Diahann Carroll and Richard Roundtree whose characters were directly related to Isaiah Washington's character. Now mind you, these are some of ABC's most highly rated shows and so one must ask themselves, what the hell is going on over there?

Were we used to boost the ratings of the network by being lured with characters that we identified with because of their race or sexual orientation and then once they got us hooked it was "so long Star!," see ya Isaiah!, and peace out Harold?" It's been how long since Star left view? And while there have been many "guest Blacks" that seat still has not been permanently filled by an African-American woman yet.

I mean it's no secret that Black actors on network television shows in leading roles are endangered species. I think the NAACP's Diversity Report pretty much summed that up earlier this year. So at what point do we in Black America take the networks to task and say, "no, I'm sorry, but not this time?"

I am at point of giving up Robin Roberts and "Good Morning America," my local news, and if I were at home to watch her, Oprah too over this madness and just switch to watching a different network altogether and urging others to do the same. I get that Isaiah won't be back but that the show will go on, a show created by an African-American woman, but at some point I think enough is enough. Our television, especially free television, should reflect the diversity that is in America. And it makes relatively no sense how some of these shows are allowed to operate without one single Black in the cast and yet we say or do nothing. This is 2007 and not 1957. If you ask me, Steve McPherson, President of ABC Entertainment has got some splainin' to do, and not that bureaucratic mumbo jumbo we read in the paper.

Today it's Isaiah and tomorrow it will be someone else.

Now that you know, what are you going to do about it.

    Let The Healing Begin

But alas, I say, let the healing begin and in honor of Dr. Preston Burke's stint on "Grey's Anatomy," why not send band-aids to Steve McPherson, President of ABC Entertainment Group in hopes of him getting the message.

Here's how to reach Steve McPherson:

Interesting article. She misses the point that Isiah didn't go do the public service announcement, go to therapy etc... out of his own free will, he was asked to do by ABC. She also takes facts and spins them - for instance, how many years was The George Lopez Show on ABC? Its pretty normal for a sitcom to get pulled after a decent run.

Actually I've been thinking about this whole issue and my reaction to it - and I'll admit that my knee jerk reaction to an accusation of racism is 'no, its not.' Maybe just b/c I hate to think it's true. So I'm really trying to stand back and be objective about it.

I do think there is an Imus effect going on here. I'm glad Imus got fired and felt it was the right thing from the moment I heard his comments. But it has created an ultra-sensitive environment to PC issues. Russell Simmons actively trying to get bitch and ho banned from rap is an obvious example of someone using the Imus situation to his own advantage. Unfortunately the Imus effect has worked against Isiah and made his comments seem much more atrocious than they would have been pre-Imus. Just saying that it should be considered in the whole arguement.

Her point at the end is a good one though - where was this outcry before Isiah got fired? Everyone and their dog knew it was coming - why wasn't there a huge flood of support for him before he got the ax when it might have done some good? I heard somewhere that some show (maybe Jericho?) was going to get cancelled but the fans organized a grassroots effort and the network got indundated with something like 80k lbs of nuts (which had some symbolic meaning re: the show) and they changed their minds and kept the show.

I think she is actually spot on in her assesment.
