I know that this is an adult forum, and childish things such as video games probably should be left out lol, but i would really like some opinions on this. It deals with the game Resident Evil 5, which is the newest installment in the Resident Evil series. Basically, for anyone who hasn't played the game or seen the movies, Resident Evil is about regular people turning into flesh eating zombies.

Now usually, the flesh eating zombies are all white zombies, and in the previous game, they were spanish zombies. There have NEVER been black zombies until this game. The reason why people are making an uproar about it is because the main protagonist in the story is a young white male. Now, if you put 2 and 2 together, that means you have a young white male shooting, butchering, and killing black people in a video game. they're also upset about how the game reinforces the notion that black people are savages. Now, i'm fairly young, and i admit that i do play the ocassional video games for fun, but even i'm unsure about playing this one, and i love the Resident Evil series. I just don't know how i would feel after mowing down african villagers (even if they are supposed to be zombies) with a machine gun and rifle. There's just too much negative history with slavery and oppression and all.

do you all think this game could be setting a bad example, or do you think it's just a harmless game, with no real negative intent behind it? well, i'm not sure if this topic is even going to get any replies, but it is being hotly debated right now, and people are making petitions for the game developers to do something about it before the game is released to the public.

i've included a link to a video, which shows some of what i'm talking about. if you have time, take a look, and tell me what you think

I don't think they've ment to be racist. But with the past in mind, I think it's very unfortunate. Also, even if it was unintetional, i fear they'll sell a whole lot of this game to white supremeist who don't enjoy it for the same reason people previously have enjoyed theese games.

Also, just because it's in Africa doesn't mean that all people are black. Most (all?) African countires have a white minority living there. (Left-overs of colonialism or whatever you'd like to call them...) Putting in 1-3% white zombies wouldn't hurt... Also in many countries, there's a indian and/or chineese minority (displaced brittish servants/soldiers?)

The Indian/Chinese minority are not necessarily ex army etc. A large contingent of Asians were encouraged to emigrate to some African countries to supplement the workforce, in around the 1960s.

So that's why they're there! I've been wondering about that. (You might have noticed the questionmark :D)

Yeah i've read discussions about it online. I do not think the intent is necessarily racist, but there exists a stroke of white supremacy in the game regardless.
