Is the European Union the Revived Holy Roman Empire?

Not even a little validity. Its impossible, wont happen - Europe is too diverse. For that to happen, you have to have everybody agreeing and follow one leader - will never ever happen. Too much animosity between countries, we can ever agree within the EU.
What has happend it the countries you mentioned is no reflection of possibilities of a new Roman empire rising, I dont even get how you draw your conclusion to be honest.

To make it even worse, he mentioned countries that could drag Europe down.
Why would you want to unite with other countries that would drag your country down? The only reason Greece got bailed out was because it would drag down the Euro! England just elected a prime minister that is often shown as very pro england and not so pro euro or EU. There is too much individualism with these countries to have a one state of Europe. They would have to respect an all mighty power like the states and the US federal government. That just won't happen because of the want to be sovereign.

 

True, way to many chiefs in Europe.
Too much bad history and too much distrust beentween a lot of countries.

For that to happen one country would have to declare war on all other European countries - and win. Not likely to happen.

Europe can't even agree on a currency, the thought of ONE GIANT EMPIRE is pretty bollocks to be honest.
Plus, each European country has so much history and individual culture, there is absolutely no way we'd be willing to give that up.

 

Just my oberservation that....in this world...*anything* can happen...
