That is not true. There are Div I big name school football players who go to top notch medical or law school. There is a wide reciever from Florida state who wants to be a neurosurgeon one day, currently a Rhodes scholar.
Ppl who think all jocks are dull are fucken morons.

I see where Sub is coming from, but at the end of the day, even at collgaite level, sports are still a luxury...these STUDENT-athletes SHOULD be focused on Academics first (Right lol) and then Athletics. Last I heard, you weren't really able to get paid to go to school...

An education is definitely worth it. I am not arguing that at all; heck, i got an almost free ride through NYU and Grad School, though that had more to do with my grades, and i definitely appreciate the importance of a strong work ethic and making most of your opportunity.

I am talking about the billions made on these athletes, where they don't see a damn dime. I dont think there is any other profession out there where this happens; it's like cold calling in a sweatshop out on Long Island, at least those mofos make "commissions" on those poor old retirees they fleece.

That's the thing, it's a profession for the staff and administrators, advertisers, etc., not the athletes. As soon as you start compensating the athletes, school becomes a more serious "business," everyone is going to want to get paid. All types of problems would evolve.

    lol

i hope no one here is/was making that assumption

i knew talented footballers in HS that also had reputations for being scholars. It takes a special person to be able to excel physically and mentally. People that can't do both usually make fun of the other.

Without the athletes, there is no product, no endorsments, nothing. How many Auburn jerseys would have sold without Cam Newton? How much did he get from it?

When I read this. A light came on. I see what you are saying now. You do have a point. Yet, it is still not slavery as you put it and THAT is how you titled the thread. I am sure that he (Cam) was given perks under the table. This is why I admired Cam's stand on this issue. Whatever, his father got was a high five "YAY" as far as I was concerned and I am glad he didn't give a penny of it back. So I say leave it as it is. As long as the college students are mentality and physically fit and stay out of trouble, things will go smoothly and you can rest assured that they are not going to starve to death while in College. Some powerful men have come through this system and have done very well. I can name a lot of them and so can you.;)
