Is Austin, TX a racist city for a well educated black man looking for a white woman?

Hi, I thinking about going to the business school at UT Austin, I am a well educated black male who graduated from an Ivy League college, but I am just wondering are a lot of women in Austin open to dating black men or no?

 

I grew up in Austin. Despite the stereotypes about Texas as whole, it's a pretty cosmopolitan city. There are a lot of transplants from the rest of the country who live there because of the University and the tech industry. If you generally don't have any problem picking up women, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to have a decent social life there.


FYI, if you do move down there, avoid Williamson County, which is North of Austin, at all costs. The local Sheriff's Department's motto is "you come on vacation and leave on probation."

Basically, the county has very little revenue because of it's laughably low tax rates, so they make money for the local government by arresting people and forcing them to pay fines from tickets and court fees.

 

I've often heard of Austin described as an island in the middle of Texas. It's supposed to be quite liberal, actually, and full of art and new ideas.

i was just in austin a couple of weeks ago...here is a tip, wear burnt orange and pretend you are a longhorn fan...you will fit right in...one thing this city is serious about is football...

Austin is very accepting of anything and everything. No one will raise an eyebrow about much there.
Boy is it a fun area, so much fun to do around there.

 

Austin is considered the most liberal of all Texas cities although there are some conservative areas outside of the city.

 

I've never been to Austin, but I've heard it's fantastic. I can't wait until we can take a trip. I'd transfer to school there, if I could, honestly.

From what I can tell about Texas, you're pretty much fine as long as you're in the big cities. The small towns seem to be -really- small and non-diverse (only going by the ones I have seen through the windows of greyhound, though.)...but considering my lack of experience outside of Houston and Dallas I can't really speak for any but the few towns I've seen between H-town and the big D.

The cities are great, though. So I assume since I've been told Austin is even more liberal and open than Houston or Dallas it's pretty awesome.

 

I used to live in Austin and would concur with most of what everyone else has said here. It is very diverse and with diversity you tend to find people take less of a personal interest in your life. One of my sister's has always only dated IR, and the other's Bi and neither has ever had an issue with anyone, nor did I ever have any problems when I lived there. And Lipstick is absolutely correct, they are crazy about football!

 

Austin is a horrible place, no women will date an Ivy League man. Better not move there....:smt105

 

Went to Austin once about 10 years ago and liked it a lot. Met the most beautiful WW while there. Music festival SXSW happens every year and there's a SXSW film festival as well.
