Well, gang, we know why this one is another hot and popular one to add to all the other rumors/generalizations, but I'd like to know what many of you think about this, despite what type of mud-slinging and fire-breathing has occurred in here.

    True or false?

I am leaning towards true, most not all of the IR marriage i have seen end in a split. I could be wrong some have worked out.

Have you considered how many "same race" marriages make it? Just half of 'em, if the stats are to be believed. My point? Perhaps IR marriages don't fare specially worse.

I think that this is a fair conjecture. The divorce rate for so-called 'same race' couples, is much higher in various parts of the world, mainly here in the states.

false, the US census stats say that IR marriages last longer and have fewer divorces than the same race couples. In the US 50% of the same race couples marriages end in divorce while only 28% of IR couples.

I would like to see your source on that. I went looking for it after you said it once before and what I found doesnt match at all.

From what I recall reading, the first marriages when interracial have a higher divorce rate. If the interracial marriage is a second or more marriage, it has just slightly higher rates of failure.

See, this is why I started this thread. I knew something like this would come up...

and, look at the majority of divorces in this country alone. Most of those are 'same race' couples, and you can't always rely on Internet statistics, because some statistics are faulty.

Sardonic, we should be looking at proportions amd not mere numbers i.e. what percentage of IR marriages fail. We need to look at the number of IR marriages that do make it with the number that do NOT make it. That will give the true picture.

read www.multiracial.org for stats and also the 2000 US Census vs the 1990 US Census

and for racially same marriages look at the US census and marriage in America

I have read those and I couldnt find where interracial couples have lesser divorce rates. maybe you could cut-n-paste it or show me a specific link.

Here is what I have found...

    http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_23/sr23_022.pdf

Interracial couples in which one of the partner is black, have the same divorce rates as black/black couples. Higher than all other couplings.

I would think that this is true simply because there is extra pressure on IR people. I don't think that's reason enough not to try however.

I would have thought they were more likely to succeed
as they have probably been more 'tested' in their relationship, so are more sure of what they are doing
    *shrugs*
I don't have any research to back it up though!

1 out of every two marriages end in divorce in this country so no one is staying together anymore. In fact, I think IR marriages are stronger because they have more respect for each other due to the stress and criticisms.
