How can you be certain Keanu was the second one offered the role and not say, Tom Cruise?? Maybe we assume that it was offered to only two people when in fact someone hasn't piped up saying she is talking about me not Will. :-? Maybe Keanu was third??

You could also probably count on two hands the amount of love scenes black guys have gotten period. Damn. If you guys still don't understand THAT you will never really get it. The sexuality of black men in general is denied/ignored by Hollywood. Hollywood doesn't want to utilize black guys that are too good looking and don't want to imply that those guys are having sex. Without even reading the posts in the thread about the SafeHouse trailer I'm going to guess many of you are excited about seeing your boy, Denzel again. But look carefully. Who is the lead in the film with his shirt off in a few clips and with a hot half-naked woman laying on his bed? It is the white guy. How often, dudes, do you see a black man being put in that position in a film? How often do you see a movie stress the desirability and attractiveness of a black man? How often do you see a black man getting laid in Hollywood films?

That, people, is the first battle because from what I can tell it ain't just white American actresses that are rarely seen hooking up with black guys on screen. I think in the past ten years black actresses have had more love scenes with white men in mainstream films than they have had with black men.

The burden of proof is on you to prove 1)that there were all of these "available jobs" involving IR for white actresses to choose from and 2)they turned it down because they wanted no part of it.

Agreed. I would be hard pressed to find an A list Actress who would do an IR scene. But, that is just life. For the record, A list Actresses get to see the script and find out who they want in the film before they decide if they want to do it...Just FYI

Man, no one held her role next to Gaius against her so stop with the conspiracies. She had maybe 2 minutes of screen time with Gaius during that show; her true love interest was one of the white male stars of the series.

Smash (Gaius) did have another white love interest played by an American actress who had a recurring role on the series anyway.

Maybe, maybe not, but the fact of the matter remains that they were both in fact the first choices and she said she couldn't see herself with the person that they had in mind. So, if I wanted to pretend the world is a wonderful place where a person could star in a film with, date, or marry whomever they wanted regardless of race without any issues and problems affecting your life and or children I suppose that I could see it that way. But, I live in reality. And the fact of the matter remains, you will not see an A list actress doing an IR love scene and still have a career (unless she busts her ass to get it back). So, they don't choose Black Actors. In addition, A list actresses get the script and the possible actor that they want to star opposite them before they decide. One of the perks of being an A List Actress. This is life and unfortunately the way it is. I know it may be hard for some to believe, but there is as much racism in Hollywood as there is everywhere else.

At any given time there about ten actresses who have any true power. And unless their names are Meryl Streep, the movies they appear in will be more about their male co-stars anyway. And guess what? Virtually all those male co-stars will be white because 95% of the screenwriters, and they tend to write movies about white men. Denzel and Will may get cast in a few of these roles but understand that is simply color-blind casting. The vast majority of roles that Denzel, Will and virtually every black lead have played was originally written for white males. That's the truth. When the studios do go with a black guy you can bet the script is not a very highly sought script and you can also bet the character is not one with an active sex life or a character whose sexuality is played up. This is because studios are uncomfortable dealing with black men as sexual beings and they are even more worried about who they will pair with those black men. Cast a black actress and now all of a sudden it becomes a black film; cast a white actress and you are shattering the ultimate taboo. So Denzel and Will will get roles in films that typically have very little to do with romance or sex.

So...to get back to my point....if these roles are in films that do deal with the subjects of lust, romance and sex a white male is almost always getting that role. So when they look for an A level actress (white or otherwise) to come aboard and play the key female co-star, a white guys is already entrenched as the star. So if these actresses are turning down roles in such films, they are not doing so because black guys are the leads. Black guys almost never get those parts so that's not going to be a problem for any white actress.

And let me add that the number of quality roles for women are so small, actresses are not turning down many roles of good scripts simply because they don't like the actors involved.

That is in dispute. Supposedly the W. Brothers had three to five other guys they wanted in the role BEFORE they settled on Keanu. Yes, Will Smith was one of them, maybe the first guy they wanted (maybe). But we can't say for sure that Sandra was referring to Will.

Not to mention that the moment a White Woman and a Black Man are in the film together it is considered an "Interracial Film" and not just a film. Read about the Pelican Brief and how they had to remove the love scene with Denzel and Roberts...

It's a 50/50 chance, but, assuming that each actress doesn't purposely choose roles that don't involve IR is ridiculous. Think of actresses that have done IR with Black Men and let me know how their careers are doing. As with most things, it's controlled by producers so even if an Actress was open to the idea of it, the moment she gets on the A list...it's a NO NO... It's kind of like that teenage girl who would be open to date whomever and marry whomever if it wasn't for that inheritance that she is waiting on.

I can't say if such films are automatically considered interracial films because the sampling is so damn small. And that's the tragedy of it all.

As for "Pelican Brief" Denzel and John Grisham were the ones against any indication of a relationship between the two characters. Julia and the director of the film were all for it. Guess who won out?

To be fair Reese Witherspoon did a film with Bokeem Woodbine in the 90s where they were romantically linked but the whole film wasn't centered around that. I get what you're saying though. There will never be a Titantic or A Notebook with bm and a ww or even an action movie like James Bond with a black man but to be fair Hollywood to this day hires too many damn one dimensional bm. Outside of Denzel and possibly Wesley Snipes most of them are incredibly one dimensional unless they're from another country like my boy Idriss or that black dude from Blood Diamond. And yeah that includes Will Smith's wack ass. He may gross a lot but like his rap career that dude is weak to me. He just gets great scripts. With the exception of The Pursuit Of Happiness(he owned the hell out of that)

That was my point. It can be "Career Suicide" for either parties. Denzel the "Black Woman's Dream Man" at the time, hooking up with a white woman would not go over well for his career. The point of the matter is it goes both ways. But I wouldn't begin to pretend that the actors and actresses involved have no say or opinions on the matter. That is just ridiculous. However, that is my opinion. And obviously not yours.

Again your argument doesn't hold because you have nothing to judge by. These actresses MAY react in the way you suggest if they were put to the test, but THE FACT REMAINS such IR pairings are very scarce and are not even under consideration in the first place. You are placing blame on actresses without grasping that they almost never get put in such a position to make that career choice. How else can I put it? It is bad enough you guys want to take the leap and make assumptions about the prejudices of all these ladies, but it is even more insane to make claims they are running away from IR opportunities. They don't have to run. They can be without one leg and diagnosed with arthritis, and they wouldn't have to work up a sweat to dodge IR films. That's because when it comes to those involving black men/white women Hollywood isn't investing in making such films in the first place.

But it didn't stop her from becoming one either but I do see your point. Kind of how JLO stopped all association with bm as soon as she became an A lister. Funny enough she played a ww more than a lw in her career too.

And how long did it take her? It doesn't have to stop you, but it can seriously slow down the process. And honestly, go to anyone and ask them the name of that movie she was in where she was with a BM. 9 times out of 10 they will have no idea what you are talking about.
