Virginia Senate candidate Joe Morrissey and the 19-year-old mother of his newborn son told the media on Thursday they want to get married and have more children.

A day after Morrissey first publicly confirmed he was the father to a 9-week-old with his former part-time receptionist, the family held a press conference to address questions about their relationship.

Morrissey, a former Virginia lawmaker now running as an Independent for Virginia State Senate, made the announcement Wednesday on the Jack Gravely show on WLEE radio in Richmond. Morrissey previously had said only that he was on hand for the baby's birth in Atlanta nine weeks ago.

"You become friends first, and then intimate," Morrissey said Thursday. "And that's what happened with us."

In December, the 57-year-old lawyer was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after being accused of having sex with his receptionist, Myrna Pride, when she was a teen. He attended House of Delegates sessions on work release while serving three months of a six-month jail sentence. Pride is now 19-years-old and the couple adamantly denied accusations they were intimately involved when she was a minor.

On Thursday, the couple publicly admitted to their relationship and Morrissey again acknowledged he was the father of Pride's son. He also said the two intended to get married, and are planning for the future together.

"We're really happy" Morrissey stated several times.

The age of majority in VA is 18 and there's no actual evidence that they were having sex while she was still a minor...but given his position over her and the scope of his authority combined with the massive age difference and there's no way that relationship wasn't coercive.

If you check his m.o., he's an thug in a suit n tie. you know these young women love them some bad boys.

 

As long as he didn't use his authority over her or coerce her, I could care less. If he was supervising her in her job, it's inappropriate because of the coercive power his position gives him and the influence it can have over a subordinate.

 

She was his receptionist. Sometimes true love does blossom from work relationships tho...even employee/supervisor work relationships. To me, they're adults so I personally don't take an issue with the way they met and fell in love. I wish them nothing but happiness.
