It depends on what you mean by common. Do you see it everywhere you go? No not necessarily. Is (mostly) everyone cool with it when you see it? Absolutely. Basically, there are fewer blacks in Austin than in a lot of other places. But the overall vibe is totally cool with it.

Austin isn't like the rest of Texas (though Texas is FAR more down for IR than you probably think - I can vouch for Houston, Dallas and even a few small towns). And Austin is a college town anyway. College girls are forever dating whoever. I was in grad school, and I was out plenty of nights and got hit on by drunk white college chicks. I even accidentally got flashed by Jenna Bush one night on 6th Street (for real). I've got such fond memories of that time in my life. We basically dated mostly white women because there were so few black women.
