Here is a list of most segregated cities in the US, LA doesnt even get to the top of the list. I dont recall where I got that list from, but there are several sources, and they are fairly similar.

    10. Philadelphia

    9. Chicago

    8. New York City

    7. Buffalo-Niagra Falls, N.Y.

    6. Cincinnati

    5. Newark, N.J.

    4. St. Louis

    3. Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria, Ohio

    2. Detroit

    1. Milwaukee-Waukesha, Wis.

I have been wanting to visit Chicago for a minute but I didn't realize it was like that there. Philadelphia is segregated? Maybe I have a skewed perception because I live and stayed in Center City in college but I didn't think it would make the list.

That list is old, its about 4 or 5 years old. I remember when it came out because a friend of mine used it for her doctoral thesis. According to some Princeton and USC sociologists who I cannot remember their names but I will put up the sources when I remember, Los Angeles is perhaps more segregated than at least half of those cities because the income inequality in Los Angeles has been growing faster and wider (for more than 20 years) than in most cities in the United States, including New York. Obviously, with economic inequality growing continuously, coupled with individuals' preference to live in homogenous neighborhoods, gives rise to residential segregation. Moreover, in many of these cities, black are evenly spread throughout the city, but not so much other races such as is the case in Buffalo, Cincinnati and St. Louis. In Los Angeles, whites and Asians prefer to live in wealthier neighborhoods because they are more safe, expensive and homogenous, largely because on average, whites and Asians have more per capita income than blacks and Hispanics.

Not that these other cities aren't segregated, but I think it's much worse in L.A.

I had you the first time, if you spent enough time in the Chi, you know about the upper North. I was just simply restating for so I could add the Wis-Can-sen in (it sure is said like that). And I just extra agree with the end of your previous post.

"Harold, Harold"!!! *As the old women wiplashes in her Lexus seat*
"Did you see that?" "How tan that gay couple was?"
"Virgina, maybe they were those dark things that look like us?"
    "Harold, they aren't even human"

I was actually substitute teaching for a 6th grade class in Oswego, IL. (about 40min outside of Chiacgo, 15 away from Naperville) a while back, he actually wrote and presented this, this is just a snippet of little a skit they were assigned lol Suprisingly, the lines got worse & the children involved didn't even get in trouble.

Hell no!!! I couldn't teach, I would be a professor though. I had enough accreditation for subbing in this district, especially with the education cooperative I was working with at the time.

Ahhh well... That's a shame for the education system! Young, effective, male teachers are a rare commodity in primary/elementary schools (at least in Australia.. and I wouldn't doubt in the US). Got excited there for a second ;)

tough to be a teacher, male and live off of those wages. A lot of time, men(in the USA) have to decide on a higher paying career to afford a family.

    I'm a witness.

    Evanston, Downers Grove, etc.

Take it from a Native Windy City Denizen.

    Been there, done that.

The *only* other place FAR WORSE (That I've personally been to in my travels & places I've resided Stateside....is Greater Cleveland, Ohio (And this includes nearly all of the surrounding suburbs).

And THAT hasn't changed in this current time AT ALL.

So what made you move to London then, AnMDB?

    The Cliff Notes version:

Born in Chi-Town (Maywood); Moved to Cleveland (thanx to Dad & Mum - whom I had to trail behind..); 16 years in that cesspool (more on that later); Moved to Denver for a brief stint; Then to London (job transfer via Time Warner [I jumped at the chance for it...having visited the U.K. thrice prior...love the life, the environment, and the people..more on THAT later, too..]); Stayed here even after my Time Warner phase came to an end.

    And now....for my NEXT gig:

And that's the way it is...as The Much Regretted WALTER CRONKITE used to say...

If I could do it all over again, I would do go into a more civic/government career. I would've maybe gone for the fire/paramedic dept, police dept...I was even a breath away from the military in 2000 when I graduated high school, and still considered going for the FBI or CIA, but my then girlfriend would've been devastated (young and in love).

I do respect teachers and civic workers with the upmost respect, I don't even have posses enough respect to give, but I personally wanted to chase the dollars to provide as much as my business creative mind can produce, as education is a lower wage here in the states. I do coach track and field & football, as well as teach track & field theory, weightlifting, and coaching. I was and am still some what of a stellar track athlete, I enjoy it very much, and coaching and teaching the classes affords me the opportunity to give back in various ways in a small way. Maybe when I get closer to retirement I will go further into education. Not that you wanted to know all this lol.

MAywood isn't the greatest place to live, but I don't think its a cesspool lol, there's definitly worse. I havefriends and family that live in Maywood, Broadview, and the immediate surronding area. You sound like you never really liked it in the states,no?

It was *not* Maywood that I referred to as a cesspool, Compadre...

    No.

    It WAS in fact Cleveland...

    I kinda miss Maywood.

    Kinda....

I have a differing opinion about Maywood. My brother would go there to get high....but anyway. LOL.

Back In The Day, Maywood was a fairly decent suburban village...

Me & the family resided on So. 5th at St. Charles.

    It was pretty spiffy....*back then*..

Now? It's all hookers & crack dealers and Christ knows what else.....

In 1998, just before my Big Exodus to Europe, I visited an old pal there for Christmas (Well, almost; I wasa there from 12-15 December & split The States for Holland on the 16th)...and man, did things look...different...I won't go into details.

Suffice it to say I've not been back since.

By the way, it wasn't long before me & the family - Back In The Day - *did* move to Evanston (University studies for Yours Truly, you know..)...

    Back In The Day...

Yeah I think you may be right, AnMDB. Maywood used to be a fairly good neighborhood as I've been told by my eldest bro, he used to go play ball there in the 80s and early 90s. It was pretty decent apparently, but not since I've been going there. It's not uncommon to find dope boys and bullet holes on front doors and shit. It's not the worst neighborhood in the ghettoes of America, but shit gets ugly there sometimes.

I definitely see the appeal of living abroad though. I did a semester in London in college at LSE, I seriously considered staying there, especially as I have family there. I did a good tour of Europe and was very impressed. I would not rule out living abroad someday, certainly. So do you prefer living in London or the states?

    Agreed, m8..

Hell, when I was last there to see a pal in 1998....on the drive to their abode...after dark...we heard an AK-47 (I presume) blasting in a backyard somewhere.

They just nonchalantly told me..."To us, it's so common, it might as well be crickets in a yard.."

And as much as I *used* to cast aspersions on Cleveland, Ohio HEAPS....nowadays I spend more thime *praying* for the city...

On a 'reconnaissance' visit in 2004, I saw that ALL their HOOTERS restaurants were all KAPUTSKI!

Along with more than a few other watering holes that were faves of mine....

    It all looked very sad....

In 2008, made another visit there, to visit an old Police Department colleague, on my way to court in N.Y.C.

    http://www.whitewomenblackmen.com/forum/showthread.php?p=355279

And it was...even sadder than the *prior* time....I won't go into details..

    London...no doubt.

In juxtaposition to the *aforementioned* place I just mentioned?

    16 years worth of that??

I first made it to Europe (Rotterdam & Amsterdam, Netherlands) kinda 'cleanse my mental palate' of that aforementioned more-than-a-decade-and-a-half.

Though I *do* admit...that I'm not *quite* like The Much Regretted Stanley Kubrick...who totally disowned The States after he expatriated in the 1960's.

He wouldn't even visit Hollywood to pick up any of the Oscars (TM) he'd received for any of his films...

I kinda sorta don't blame him..

    Not at ALL!

But *I* do have some very dear friends Stateside that I *do* go to see every now and again if I happen to be on Special Assignment for any production projects there....
