I seriously couldn't stop laughing at this video. That woman actually cried and the white tried to act like he gave a shit after being caught on tape was priceless. I noticed how they said people don't jump in but that's NY we're notorious for minding our own business here. So some of it may be racism but I'm sure more of it is people just unwilling to get involved.
Damn now I want to try doing this.

i find your reaction to the video interesting andrae. i actually cried along with the lady in red, and am still very disturbed by the whole thing. i don't live in ny let alone america, but there is no way in hell i would ever stand by and watch someone be subjected to that kind of treatment.

Did you notice the ppl who came to her rescue?

    1. A light skin Indian (a "minority").... she prolly had family member subjected to racism due to foreign name and accent.
    2. And few Brit ladies. They might be subjected to some sort of discrimination themselves due to being a foreigner. And may be this confirm what ppl say about most Europeans, they are a little more open than US.

    Welcome to America.

I laugh because I think that's all you can do at shit like this. You guys have seen me rant about other things but stuff like this barely phases me at this point. If they want to show a real expose show the time differences in response times for ems and police when being called to an all black neighborhood in comparisson to a white one. Now that's worth crying over.

it barely phasing you is disturbing me. how much of "this" have you been subjected to in your life that it's kind of like water off a ducks back? after watching the video i felt physically sick.

i agree that the response time comparison would be an interesting one to report on...who would have the balls to do so though????

In the defense of cabbies out here they're usually freigners who have never encountered black people and all they see is the dominant thug culture associated with black culture. Shit if I weren't black I wiould think the same thing.

To answer your question I personally don't deal with it often but growing up in this country and seeing the daily injustice on the news and in the lives of people you know it gets to point you're not surprised anymore. I lost my inocence when those cops got off for murdering a black man for pulling out a wallet. They emptied more than forty shots and they went free. I saw how cheap black life was here so now nothing can surprise me. I guess that's the blessing in the curse of being black. Your eyes are wide open and you can only be pleasantly surprised.

I'm with you Tarshi, I could not stand there and say nothing, nor could I pretend to ignore what was going on. Those people that just went about their business disgust me. I must admit I don't understand why the one woman was so upset she cried, especially since she really didn't attempt to intervene and only got upset after the saleswoman talked to her. That type of racial profiling no doubt exists, but that's not a nationwide occurrence I don't think. I worked in retail ages ago and we were not instructed to watch anyone based upon skin color.

i'm sorry andrae, just goes to show that i've grown up in such a bubble. we don't really get reports on american news unless we go to the cable channels. and to be honest, i'm so tired of the needless violence, hatred and sadness that is reported that i just don't watch it anymore.

I'm with you it's so depressing but inspiring because if life has taught me for every bad there's a good so I'd like to think where we see violence we also see compassion.

Clearly that video backs your opinion Andrae, but I'm telling you that would not be the case with everyone, and it's darn sure not the case with me. If I see anyone bullying or mistreating another person, I cannot stop myself from intervening. It's just completely inappropriate to treat anyone like that, and when people say nothing it only makes them bolder IMO. I know that people think that by saying nothing they remain neutral, neither condemning nor condoning the behavior, but silence IMO is tacitly condoning it. I've never been afraid to speak up, but after my children were born I viewed it as setting an example for them to follow. I would never want them to do that to someone, nor sit back and watch it be done, and children learn more from what they see than from what you tell them.
