Inheritance: The Main Reason Against BM/WW Marriages?

Of course, there isn't a doubt that simply because of our skin color and where we come from, racist whites all over the world wouldn't want their daughters to marry us and why their worst nightmare would be to have any of them bring us home. A good friend of mine from the African nation of Gabon explained to me how his girlfriend's parents (she's actually from Venezuela) were vehemently opposed to them thinking about getting married once they found out he was black and African. They've given up now that they've seen how deeply in love they are.

This may not be a myth, but I wasn't sure where else on the forum to post this. A friend of mine told me recently that aside from the usual racist belief that blacks are inferior human beings, one primary reason why many white parents don't appreciate their children, especially their daughters, getting married to black men, has to do with the fact that many white children inherit significant amounts of wealth from their parents and grand parents. Hence, given the fact that a man has rights over a woman when he gets married to her, the though of a black male having access to that wealth and those resources deeply upsets them.

I can definitely understand your argument. First with respect to your African friend's predicament, it's not unusual for various latin countries to descriminate against blacks from anywhere, specifically that continent. I can't tell you how many times I've seen latin americans ( male or female) come to this country and integrate into white culture, regardless of whether they were mid or fair-skinned. So, it doesn't surprise me with that prejudice.

As for your inheritance argument, a few years ago I had a roommate in college (white guy) who said that his family which were from the area were wealthy. He said that he would be able to inherit their wealth as long as he accepted their racist past and present, and you guessed it, not marry outside the race. Consequently, he told me he wanted no part of it and planned to move to Florida.

But I wouldn't be surprised that a good number of middle to upper class whites feel this way. Much less the filthy rich cats. I remember watching Howard Stern about 3 years ago when he had Donald Trump on. This was when "The Apprentice" first came out. In typical Stern fashion, he asked the Donald how he'd feel about his daughter dating a black guy. Needless to say, Trump paused a minute before stating that it would be OK. Although, I felt there was the impression given that he wouldn't want it to be longterm, much less ending in marriage.

that may be true for a good number of women dating black men, however, for me its the other way around. Iam the black male with the large inherited wealth and she is the white woman with no wealth. I have the trust fund, property and she just comes with a college degree and a job.

You guys raise valid points. In all sincerity, i have never liked Donald Trump as much as to give a rat's ass about what he thinks. With me, i do not need any woman's inheritance. I do not mean to toot my own horn but i have a lot of inheritances ahead of me. But me not being the prodigal son, i shall wait for time to take its turn. I certainly do not need a white woman's inheritances to certify me rich; i can do it with my own will.

yep, I come with my own family money, i dont need someone elses. this is why this is in the stereotypes and myths forum, it is a myth and a stereotype that all black folks are first generation college educated, come from poverty, need affirmative action to get ahead, all live in the ghetto, all support the victim mentality, all look for white men to give them handouts in forms of education, welfare, government programs.

look around people, there are middle and upper middle and upper class blacks also in the this country and world. we dont all need white peoples money. many of us have been born into our own family legacy and money. many of us didnt need to get help to get a college education or need qoutas to get a job.

please, the myths must stop. just because so many identify with the poor black experience, like the ghetto mentality, and like to act like they are down with the streets doesnt mean that black people are not diverse in their backgrounds.

WEB Dubois went to Harvard long before there was affirmative Action and governmental programs

Madame CJ Walker was a millionaire 60 years before teh Civil Rights movement.

MLK jr went to Boston College before there were black qoutas at schools in the 60s

so many think that the world started in 1960s for black people, no we have been Doctors, Lawyers, business owners, politiiciains, landowners as long as this nation has been a NATION.

What are they teaching in Afro Am studies these days, I wonder

Wealth inheritance might be a reason for many who are wealthy, but keep in mind that there are also many racists in the white working class.

what does that have to do with ths topic? lets stay on the subject. Do families insist that their wealthy daughter not date a BM because of fear of losing their inheritance or him getting ahold of their wealth?

Justice Clarence Thomas, an accomplished jurist, who is black and came from the working poor married Virginia (dont recall her maiden name) who comes from a wealth midwestern Republican family, is a good example of what didnt have to happen but probably wouldnt happen that often.

It seems, as though, tuckerreed has put, yet, another myth and stereotype to shame.

And to add to it, even if some of us blacks are or aren't born into money, it doesn't mean that we aren't able to go out and earn it on our own either, if not MORE, for those who already have plenty of it.

I honestly don't think it's about money. It's about tainting the legacy, going against family traditions/ culture, and robbing the children of the pure white blood that is recognized as a priviledge in the WORLD.

Not to mention, they[bi-racial children] won't be able so socially interact with the racist whites. Not that people want to be around racists, but I think it's safe to say we all know some people that have some sort of racist negativity in their brains and although they may be the nicest person(on the surface) they can be very racist in their minds & language.

This type of thinking from their offspring is going to lead to major problems in the future. Most of their venom is directed at blacks. Here are parts of comments posted by this particular guy who could turn out like Leo Felton. His dad is black and mother Jewish. He said much of his hatred for blacks stems from issues with his black father and that he grew up around whites for the most part.

    TheMulatoKid: How I feel...

    1) A DARK PART OF ME FEELS SUPERIOR TO BLACKS, AND INFERIOR TO WHITES

    2) I WANT TO BE FREE FROM THE HORRIBLE BURDEN OF BLACKNESS. I DONT WANT AND WILL NEVER EVER ACCEPT BLACKS' EMMOTIONAL BACKAGE. LET ME GO, AND STOP FORCING ME TO LIFT YOU UP!

    3) I WOULD NEVER TRADE IN BEING MULATTO FOR BEING WHITE.

    4) FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I AM PROUD OF BEING MIXED TO BE MIXED, NOT AS A PROXY FOR WHITE.

    What I beleive...............

    1) BLACKS AND WHITES HAVE STOLEN AND DESTROYED THE MULATO COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES. AND BLACKS ARE WORKING AS HARD AS THEY CAN TO KEEP IT FROM ME.

    2) BLACKS ENVY AND RESENT ME SECRETELY, EVEN IF THEY CANT ADMIT IT, BECAUSE THEY HATE THEMSELVES.

    3) MULATTO TRAITORS ARE OUR WORST ENEMIES.

    4) WHITES CAN BE EASILY CONVINCED TO ACCEPT US.

What I want, well, what I think I want......

    1) A NON-CONFLICTED, "SAFE" IDENTITY THAT I DONT HAVE TO RECONSIDER ALL THE TIME TO MAKE IT AIR-TIGHT.

    2) A PUBLIC COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE LIKE ME TO BELONG TO.

    3) FRIENDS WHO ARE MY "RACE".

    4) A COMPLETE AND TOTAL END TO ONE-DROPPING, AN END TO RACIAL HIJACKING, AND AN END TO MULATTO SELF-DENIAL.

    5) PUBLIC RECOGNITION OF MULATTOS, MIXED RACES, AND FOR THE MIXED RACE STORY TO BE TOLD RIGHT.

Yea, I feel much much better now that I got all those feelings out. I hope none of you will make the very unwise mistake of using my candid revalation as a weapon against me. Theres really nothing there that i am unprepared to deal with, or I would not have told you. So you will make me your permanent enemy and lose my respect forever. Dont do it.

I suppose this more or less confirms both what Harmoni and Sag (to an extent) were saying. But please drop the condescention sag! Anyway, I think im gonna go bash on my enemies in Brazil forum now, but dont worry, E talked me into taking a more tactical and less angry "rabid" approach, haha.

I don't know if this is a stereotype among rich people.
A lot of the wealth and power that we use to define class here in the States is based on race.
Many people of all races believe that white people are free to go as far as they can without the “problems” associated with being a minority. Money is part of that equation but some think that there is a certain privilege that comes with being in the majority and they want to retain that advantage.

I agree that some of that comes down to “back room- locker talk” in that some of the things said in the country club won't be so well accepted by any person of conscious or color.

    The Meaning of White
    By JENINNE LEE-ST. JOHN

How important is your racial identity to you? Researchers long thought it wasn't that crucial to whites. But a groundbreaking new study on whiteness and race relations by University of Minnesota sociologists shows that whites in the U.S. are far more conscious of being white--and the privileges it brings--than was believed.

The survey is packed with fascinating findings, some surprising (a stunning proportion of whites--77%--say their race has a distinct culture that should be preserved) and some less so (whites view their role in the social hierarchy more benignly than blacks and Hispanics do). Whites are more likely to say prejudice and discrimination put blacks at a disadvantage than to say those factors contribute to white advantage. And they are much less likely than nonwhites to attribute inequality to bias in the legal system.

What to make of all this? Though whites in the U.S. believe there remain advantages to being white, they don't necessarily link those advantages with blacks' disadvantages. This hinders racial reconciliation, says co-author Douglas Hartmann: "Whites have invented subtle ways to convince themselves that race isn't a problem in America." Blacks do see more racism in society than whites but, contrary to stereotype, seem disinclined to blame the system for their disadvantage. In fact, they are more likely to attribute it to individual causes like a lack of hard work--77% did so, compared with 62% of whites. "We think of U.S. minorities as less engaged in American individualism," Hartmann says, "but they are maybe more so."

Uh-oh... NOW you've done it. I guess White people (especially all the ones who are lurking and hating this site who can read this) can't use the 'race card' cry against us anymore.
