Well, Joe Biden famously predicted that Barrack Obama would be tested early in his presidency. Will this be the test? North Korea's leadership have demonstrated in recent months that they are not kidding when it comes to missile launches. How should we react if they shoot towards Hawaii (even if they fall short)? It would clearly be a direct threat. <snip> SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July, a Japanese news report said Thursday, as Russia and China urged the regime to return to international disarmament talks on its rogue nuclear program. The missile, believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles, would be launched from North Korea's Dongchang-ni site http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090618/D98T1AR00.html
Reminds me of Pearl Harbor all over... why are the Asians always attacking Hawaii That would be sabre-rattling on an epic scale tho.. if they launch missiles towards Hawaii, what do we do? do we continue to try to impose sanctions? or do we return the favor and welcome them to the Big Leagues, with a couple of B-2s
To me this suggests that Kim Jong-Il is in bad shape; the regime is making a show of strength in attempt to foster internal stability should his son be forced into power. NK promised an 1000 fold attack if we were to attack them. Only thing, we could respond with a million fold attack with our supply of 5,000 nukes, and they are aware of that.
Yes, they must be, but is the decision-maker thinking rationally? With NK, Iran, the Economy, swatting flies, etc. this is turning out to be quite an exciting first year for President Obama.
i think there is a fine line with how diplomatic this presidency can be with north korea...obama is going to have to make an example out of someone and it might as well be north korea...none of this ground troop crap anymore...if the usa is going to fend off any/all countries entertaining the idea of bombing the usa or even launching anything in our direction...i say hit them where it hurts and let the rest of the world watch and be weary that the usa is not going to role over and play dead...you are either friend or foe...
A (a being singular) Japanese news report makes an unsubstantiated claim and people are calling for blood already? Lord what is wrong with our society that we want 100 lbs of flesh for ANY perceived injustice or now even potential injustice?
North Korea launching missiles towards America would not be an injustice, it would be a threat, actual, not perceived. The threat was made, we should be prepared, and they have already demonstrated over the past several weeks that they are in the habit of launching missiles. It is not only the US, but the UN, EU, Japan, China and other entities who object. Are they all nuts? You may not be comfortable with the idea, but national security is one of the few responsibilities explicity obliged to the federal govt by the US Constitution.
