Immigration: Arizona strikes back

I don't think most White Women like ourselves realize how much of a hassle those who are profiled go through. It's easy to say "I wouldn't mind", but frankly my day is too busy to be repeatedly stopped, interrogated, harassed, and delayed by someone who thinks I look like someone breaking the law.

More importantly, tho, if we think we wouldn't mind, then we should be included.

Millions of people in this country look Hispanic and are breaking no laws. They don't deserve to be targeted simply because of their race. It creates an unequal playing field whereby I, as a blonde Woman, can speed right through my day, while someone else who is a different hue has to take time out to be profiled.

In all the times I've been with my husband where he's been profiled because of his race, it's never taken us less than 1/2 hour to get out of there.

Law abiding citizens should not be treated differently because of the color of their skin.

That's basic, and it's simple, and it's true.

Logically:

illegal immigration is a problem

in Chicago, polish illegal immigration is a problem

racial profiling is a solution to the problem of illegal immigration

in Chicago, profiling white people is a solution to the problem of polish immigration

If that doesn't work, there must be a reason. Logically, either racial profiling is not the solution, or there is some other reason we would not profile white people.

Just so you know, I'm not bullshitting about the polish thing. I've seen estimates of 70,000 Polish illegal immigrants in this city.

 

Then write your local congressman about the issue.

 

I don't actually have a problem with them.

I'm just making the point. Again, if:

• illegal immigration is a problem
  
• in Chicago, polish illegal immigration is a problem
  
• racial profiling is a solution to the problem of illegal immigration
  
• in Chicago, profiling white people is a solution to the problem of polish immigration

If that doesn't work, there must be a reason.

  Illegal immigration in the form of Mexicans border jumping is totally different than Polish people coming illegally. It's like drug trafficking from Mexico to the US in comparison to drug trafficking from Jamaica to the US. Or like robbing banks in Chicago if you live in Chicago opposed to if you rob banks in Chicago from NY. Same crimes different solutions. I'd imagine the Polish immigration problem is 1. Far less damaging to the infrastructure of Chicago the way Mexican immigration is to Arizona and the US as a whole.

Why would Polish immigration be less damaging locally than Mexican?

If you want to say illegal immigration in Chicago isn't a problem, fair enough, but if I'm to assume this nationwide problem is a problem for me locally, then why wouldn't Polish illegals be as much of a drain on this city as Mexican illegals?

If your only "logical" answer is that Chicago doesn't need racial profiling at all, then I'd be tempted to agree and say fuck Arizona's racist anti-MLK ass anyway.

Are you suggesting that Arizona has a special need for racial profiling unshared by any non-border states?

Because in that case we as a nation need to question whether these states are a benefit or a burden to us. Other states seem to be handling the border without racial profiling, what is it about Arizona that makes it such a failure?

 

Yes, every/most city has it's illegal immigration problem. For chicago it's mostly Polish and Mexicans. For Nothern Cal- it is chinese, for Minnesota and Northen Wisconsin-Hmong folks, for New york and New jersey, it is russians, Irish, asians, etc..for Washington DC- Africans predominantly Ethiopians etc.....
I know they are not going to pass a law to profile white folks, why? 'coz being white is being right, simple as that, the white privillage. Also there is a theory that white folks is going to be outnumbered by minorities in year 2050 so they are trying to offset that by letting any type of white immigration to this country, legal or illegal. In fact, in small towns they encourage WW to bring as many white babies as they possibly can to this world, that is why you see a 22 yo WW who is in college with 4 little white kids in a back of her station wagon.
Anyhoo, if every state is going to adopt Arizona law then they should stop and search any suspicious looking person despite their Melanin or lack there of.

I'm sorry you're having a bad day Chi. I agree that it would be more fair if it was applied across the board, that's why I said I wouldn't mind if I was stopped and asked for ID. I also realize it's unlikely that will be done. I actually agree with you about 99% of the time, in fact this may be the only issue I have a different opinion on. It was bound to happen at some point. I understand where you're coming from and agree with some of your points, but I personally don't have a problem with Arizona for what they've chosen to do for a variety of reasons.

I agree, anyone choosing to live in Arizona rather than come to Chicago in droves is absolutely suspicious and should be detained.
