I think the point being made is we shouldn't be giving so many allowances that we don't give to our own citizens. For one as an American citizen if you committ a crime a warrant is issued and cops are sent out to find you. They are even allowed to stop people who fit your physical description and when you are caught if found guilty you do time in prison. Some are suggesting that we ignore that coming into the US illegally is a crime. We are being asked to allow them to come into this country and afford them rights that naturalized citizens not only pay for through their federal and state income tax but defend with their very life when called to war. It's disrespectful and naive to believe people should be ok with us. Yes the sign says bring us your poor your hungry and your huddled masses but not at the expense of those who have worked hard to build and sustain this country. What about their right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Should it not exist here because it's bad some where else?
I agree. It's no longer fiscally responsible/reasonable for this country to take in every single person on the planet if they want to come here and give them everything for free. It's time that the US takes care of its own citizens. We cannot be the world's security blanket anymore. It shouldn't come at the price of its citizens.
You know, Bookworm, we live in the city most likely in the whole country to have illegal Polish immigrants. There's a great number of them here. Shall we start stopping all the White people?
I was born and raised here, they can stop me all they want and twice on Sunday. Maybe if we started stopping more people, then it would discourage illegals from coming here to begin with....we're too soft and everyone in the world knows it. Why do you think they all come here??
I agree on this Bookie. I have no issue with being stopped and asked to produce proof of citizenship, personally I think that makes it more fair across the board. It wouldn't insult me in the least.
Babe, I think some people view it as racial profiling and that's not going to sit well with just about anyone who isn't prejudiced, nor do I think it should. Like I said I think they should just randomly stop people, not just Hispanics, because as Chi pointed out, not all illegal immigrants have brown skin. In my mind that makes it fair and takes the racial profiling sting off. Crack down on all illegal immigration, not just Hispanics. I'm not saying send every single person who is here illegally back to wherever they came from because I think there are cases, such as people who need political asylum, where I think here is where they need to be. But let's face it that's not going to be the case with most Hispanics. I also don't think it's as easy as closing the borders and shipping them home, we've been doing that for decades and it clearly doesn't work. There isn't an easy solution, and in cases like that sometimes you have to try several options before you find one that works, and some of those options are going to be viewed positively by some people. I see merits to both sides of the argument here, but I personally have no issue with what Arizona has done, and I understand why they did it.
Thats not what I meant by that post AT ALL. I was just trying to show how harsh other countries are towards illegal immigration and how tight they seal their borders. Some of those countries are insanely extreme which I would never want, but I would like the US to take a hard stand on border security. I dont think the US should feel guilty for trying to tighten up their borders and not being so lenient with laws. We are literally bending over backwards for illegals.
This country became great because it offered opportunities not hand outs. We need to show decisive and lasting strength. Cut off the boarders strengthen the infrastructure. Make sure that those who have a desire to take advantage of our freedoms will think twice before doing it.
I get card everytime I go to the bar. I get asked to show my ID when I am in different dept of my work building and I am a law abiding tax paying productive citizen....but we cant ask a suspicious looking individual to produce authenitacted legal identification card....ah, I get it, we live in overly PC bleeding hearts nation.
I pretty much almost never need my ID. Even in situations where you always need an ID, I can talk my way out of it. Why? I'm a White girl. I can do whatever the fuck I want. Every security guard, cop and authority figure of any kind knows a white girl is not "suspicious looking". Suspicious looking means darker than white. I'm not in favor of that. If it's about "illegals", then we should be looking harder at anyone who looks Polish (anyone white) in Chicago. That will never happen. White people will never, ever be targeted. The people advancing these laws don't give a shit about illegals. They don't like dark people. If they could make it illegal to have a tan, they would. If you think they would pass similar laws profiling White people, you have lost your everloving mind.
Sorry, but I don't believe you. I live in the suburbs and can't buy alcohol at any grocery story or liquor store without proper ID and I'm older than you. I also can't gain entry into a bar anywhere (even in other states) without proper ID. In fact, years ago, I was with my friend at a liquor store in the suburb where I live and I didn't even have any alcohol in my hand, but because I was with her, I was required to show TWO FORMS OF ID, even though I was not handing the cashier money. I didn't have it on me, since I wasn't buying anything, so I had to go out to her car and get my purse. The cashier said, sorry, that's the law, anyone standing in line has to show 2 forms of ID.
I use to think that shit was true until I was at the airport. I dare you to go there with your white privilige nonsense. I will definitely cosign that there is racism when it comes to cops pulling people over and even in clubs when getting frisked but your arguement is horse shit Chi and here's why. The problem isn't white immigration. Why would do we need to stop people from Poland or Russia or any other white European country. The problem is illegal immigration from Mexico. Those are the people who come in illegally by the hundreds of thousands per year. Those are the people who cost this country billions in education, healthcare, and other welfare programs. So drop the equal discrimination bs. Deal with the problem people have, illegal immigration coming in through Mexico. That's the entire reason for the law not some thinly veiled attempt to stop people of color whenever they want. Guess what? They do it already. Logic!!!!!!
LOL, that is so true Andrae. I got damn near strip searched the last 2 times I flew. I guess I'm a suspicious looking white person or maybe it's just luck of the draw. The airport is definitely one place that doesn't discriminate.
Co-sign....I always breathe a sigh of relief whenever I get past the security checkpoints. Even though I don't have anything, it's still nerve wracking!!
Seriously? You all are arguing that because you've ever seen White people subject to the same conditions as everyone else, that you find it believable that they would pass a law profiling White people? Is that really what you believe? That they would pass a law suggesting that they start profiling White people? They are not going to do that. They are so not going to do that.
No I don't think that's likely to occur Chi, and that's not what I meant. I was simply agreeing with Andrae that there are instances where everyone is subject to the same rules, and airport security is one of those. I agree with you that white people don't get looked at as often as people with darker skin colors. However, like Bookie I have to show ID at times. It doesn't bother me in the least as I know it's something that's required. I'm pretty sure I said this before, but one of my sisters looks every bit as Hispanic as some of the illegal immigrants I've known, and it wouldn't bother me if she was in Arizona and they stopped her to ask for her ID. I asked her what she thought of it and she said it wouldn't bother her either. She's a US citizen and she doesn't have a problem with being asked to verify that.
