Here is the link to what happen on 4/23/2010.

Do you think this state law was a good idea or a bad idea? I say that is a good idea in theory. There are many people coming here from other countries illeglaly. This would be a good idea to ship them back. In practice though, It will lead to profiling of many american citizens. This is a bad effect of the law. Had the governement handled this, we would not be talking about it. It is quite clear that illegal immigration is agaisnt the law. It makes it difficult for americans to get jobs at the end. Something has to be done about the people who are here. I am certain obama will not be the one to do it. He has too many people that support him that are close to supporting illegal immigration.

It's bad enough that racial profiling occurs, but institutionalizing it into state law is reprehensible.

Living in Arizona, I love this. Its about time they did something about this problem.

The protesters yesterday didnt do themselves any favors by throwing bottles at cops. SMH

Its not againist immigration...its againist ILLEGAL immigration.

When that rancher was shot by a Mexican whom walked back to the boarder, the wheels turned and the state had enough. I'm for the Hispanics who worked hard to be citizens:passing the test etc. The immigrants who did not follow the rules can't get special treatment. I believe the sincerity of those protesters if I can walk to their homes, eat their food from the fridge, and sit on the couch to watch tv without paying a dime.

Regardless of what you think of immigration, giving the cops a blank check to stop anyone who they "think" might be illegal means that they can now legally harass anyone for being light brown. Not just actual illegals, but legal immigrants, and natural born citizens, and any person of color who looks like they could be Latino.

Yeah but if they are citizens there shouldn't be a problem. What is lost by them stopping people and asking for papers?

Oops looks like it's their Negro wake-up call. Welcome to being black. And just think, we're natural born citizens. Fail to see the problem here.

Even though I am a born american, I do not want to be harassed by the police over my citizenship if I were in AZ. I didn't force the illegal immigrants to come over. Why should I have to be punished by having to show proof of citizenship because somoene else broke the law if I were in AZ?

All of history teaches us that stopping people and demanding their papers is a bad path.

There's no such thing as "if you're innocent, you shouldn't care if the cops question you". Because the cops don't tend to do so in a friendly, jovial way that fails to interfere in one's life. There's a reason we make such a big deal about "just cause" before we let cops stop and question people. It is rarely a pleasant experience, even if you are completely innocent.

i'm with chi on this. i can't see any good in giving the police the right to harass a group of people because they think that they may be illegals...it will only lead to trouble.

and in regards to being black in america, of course i have no idea how that feels or the hardships you as a people must go through and have been through, but wouldn't we want to discourage "bend ova biatch" rather than encourage it...???

Yeah, like they're not going to harass any light skinned black people over this.

    a) Nothing new for African-Americans (I hasten to add actual African-American US citizens, not Dominicans, Puerto Ricans etc of Black descent) of any shade.

    b) All this sky-is-falling rhetoric is yet to be determined. Call me a few years from now when class-action suits start flying from people who were wrongfully harassed. Oh right, they were illegals who got caught and deported.

    c) Get your green card and there will be no problems. The only reason anyone would be against this shit is if they or peeps they knew were here illegally.

    d) Latinos are running around shooting Blacks execution style in Southern Cali and NJ so excuse me if I don't give a fuck.

Again, fake outrage. Not a conservative by any stretch but AZ got this one right.

Crazy talk. All of it. You simply do not give police officers license to legally harass people based solely upon their race. This is not something that has ever gone well, it is not something that will ever go well, and it always, ALWAYS, leads to some Black Man, somewhere, getting beaten. Always. You can set your clock by it. Give police the right to harass Asian people, and they'll find a way to beat Black Men for it. I guarantee it.

"no one would be against it if they were legal" -- HA! Yeah, that line has ever made sense before. "You wouldn't mind random police stops if you weren't driving dirty" "You wouldn't mind random locker searches in school if you didn't have anything to hide" "You wouldn't mind full body scanners at the airport if you aren't a terrorist" "You wouldn't mind UN inspectors if you didn't have WMDs". It's always, always a lie. Live for 15 minutes on Earth and you can gather proof of the fact that authority abuses power. This is why you don't give authority stupid amounts of power. This would be that, by the way.

Like they just said on SNL
"everytime someone say 'show me your papers' - Hitlers family gets a residual check"

I gotta side with Karma on this. You act as if cops really need a reason to harass black men being black is enough for them they don't need a new provision to provide them with an excuse.
The illegal immigration problem is way out of hand I can not understand how you don't see that. Liberals want to save everyone and give everything away and as noble as it sounds its completely unsustainable. What should a state like AZ or TX do when the population is over flowing with illegals who bring an enormous cost with. Yes they work and buy things like food and pay rent but they also bring an incredible crime rate with them which we pay for fiscally as citizens by them going to jail and us as blacks socially because every minority problem falls on the back of black men. I agree that authorities shouldn't have absolute power over citizens but this a very real issue and I don't see how to solve it other than making them hate the idea of coming here. If they had no where else to go maybe they would fix their own country.

Show me your fucken papers or bend ova bitch.

Will police abuse their power? probably so. Will some blk ppl/light skin blks suffer because of this? May be, but this is not something new.... Blks have been raped for generation and continue to get raped. Look, we even have an African guy in the white house and his own professor and personal friend was harrassed, so nothing will surprise blacks.
I dont have any problem with any nationality, ethnic back ground or race.... but hotdamn come here legally. There are millions of Africans, Euros, South Americans, and Asians who come here legally and work their way legally up to green card or citizenship, so it is no fair for them to just legalize illegals or to give them a pass. In fact the majority of folks who are against legalizing illegals are legalized immigrants.

Go to Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, etc.. with out papers, the police would literally rape you. We all heard some horror stories from American tourist b4. I mean, come on tighten the border security, if there is a demand for migrants workers, provide visa for them, let them come and work then when the job is done return home safe.
I guess it is too much to ask from our goverment.
