I'm new to this site. Actually new to the topic in general. I've been perusing the topics and posts and am really enjoying the very adult exchanges. It's nice to see people can talk about some pretty controversial subjects in a respectable manner.

About me: I'm a WW, I've been in a few IR in the past, but none with a BM. Though my eyes have since been opened to the possibility.

I hope to be able to not only gain some insight, but also offer up my thoughts on topics in the future.

    I'm glad I found this site! :D

    I'm curious

    Hi again,

May I ask what exactly does a Professional Screen Writer do? I'm curious because my professional training is in the field of broacasting. I'm presently not working in that medium, but I have worked in both Radio (WSIX AM & FM radio - Nashville, Tn - many moons ago), and Television News as a cub reporter. (also, many moons ago).

    Re: I'm curious

    Hi Darryl,

I suppose I should amend that to read aspiring screenwriter (I'm trying to think positively). I haven't sold a script to Hollywood yet, but I have written 2, and have been involved in rewrites with several others.

2 friends and myself are currently running a very independent production company. We write, produce, finance, direct, and edit our own films. We've made 2 feature films, 1 short - that was submitted to that Fox TV show On the Lot - but it didn't get picked. We are currently in development with several ideas to make a couple of film shorts and a feature later this year.

It sounds like you've had quite the experience in the medium yourself! Have you met any interesting people in your day? What made you get out of it?

    Hi Bookworm616,

I should point out that most of my radio experience (4 years)was in Country Music, at WSIX FM (I grew up in Nashville, Tn). With the possible exception of Dolly Parton, you've probably never heard of the singers I've either met in person, or chatted with on the phone (while their respective songs were playing on AIR). But here they are; Bill Anderson, Dolly Parton, Skeeter Davis, & Marty Robbins.

As for why I left the business, the short answer is my personal health. I made the unfortunate mistake of trying to work full time, and go to college full time. I know some people are able to pull it off. I couldn't do it. My grades began to slip, then my on air performance also began to suffer. By the time I realized I was in over my head, I had stopped attending classes, and was still so stressed out, I quit my job as well. After a 6 months absence I just never went back. Years later when I did make an attempt to re-enter the field, I found broadcasting had changed (and become a cut-throat industry) so much that I really no longer cared for it. Today, having a much more mature voice, I'm considering an attempt to re-enter broadcasting, but only after I acquire more passive income, (Rental property). I don't ever want to be in a position again, where I'm stressed over money.

You are right. I haven't heard of anyone but Dolly. I could never get into country music.

I hear you about money. I had to give up my dream job at a museum, because they weren't paying enough, and I needed to live. :(

I hope that you can get back into it, and that you find fulfillment. I'm working in the business world, and being a creative person, it's slowly eating me alive, to sit in front of a computer all day. But, hey, what are ya gonna do, right? It pays the bills right now.

The production company does help to offset the boredom of my day job, though. So, it's making it bearable for now... 8)

My family is into rental property too, and vending machines, and internet businesses, and other "more passive" incomes. It's all about multiple streams of cash flow .

    Welcome to the forums Bookworm.

    Effie,

I just visited your site at 360 yahoo. What a pleasant surprise. I'm a practicing Christian too. I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it was to briefly peruse your blog, and read your comments about God, life, and the sometimes non-sensical  comments directed at us, because of our religious convictions. Thank you for commenting at this site, and may God bless you and your Son daily.
