Luis Moreno-Ocampo Tuesday, May 17, 2011 The International Criminal Court (ICC) ignores crimes committed by US-backed regimes, and only prosecutes states not favored by Washington, a political analyst says. In an interview with Press TV, Stephen Lendman made a reference to the ICC's inaction with regard to the “crimes” committed by the Saudi, Bahraini, Yemeni and Israeli regimes, saying “They are members of the club. If you are members of the club ... you can do anything you like and get away with it.” “The boss of the club, of course, is America, and the junior partners are Israel, Britain, and France--the Western European powers,” he went on to say. Hundreds of Bahraini and Yemeni anti-government protesters have so far been killed or suffered torture since mid-February, at the hands of the Saudi and US-backed regimes in Manama and Sana'a. Lendman criticized the ICC for turning a blind eye to the “volumes of evidence of US war crimes” in the last decade in Afghanistan, Pakistan Iraq and its “proxy aggressions” This is while there are “marvelous” international laws such as the Geneva Convention, Rights for Women, Rights for Children, and Rights for Social Justice, which have become worthless, “because the great powers ignore them,” Lendman argued. The chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) Luis Moreno-Ocampo has recently said the body would formally seek the arrest of senior members of the Libyan regime. However, senior officials in Tripoli have denounced the ICC action, saying the court is a Western creation for prosecuting African leaders. Since the revolution against Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's regime began in mid-February, tens of thousands have been killed and injured in clashes between Libyan revolutionaries and pro-Gaddafi forces.
