I think i'm afraid of the Cops...

Last night after coming home from the movies, i ended up accidentally locking my keys in the car. I didn't have a spare set, and i'm too cheap to call a locksmith..lol so i just called the campus police instead, and asked them if they could help me out. Well, when the cop pulls up outside and i walk up to him, i almost immediately got nervous just being around him. He was a white guy, blonde hair, stocky build. Nothing out of the ordinary, but still. I don't think there was any particular reason why i should feel uneasy around him, because he's the one doing me a favor by trying to unlock the door so i can get my keys out of the car, but there was just this strange feeling of uneasiness that i had when i was standing next to him. Do you guys think that my fear is sort of a conditioned fear?? A conditioned fear that a lot of black people have of cops, even though they've never actually had a bad experience with the cops themselves?? :smt017

 

First I want to say that you are really a smart young man! When I started to read your thread - (locked car - keys inside - at night) I thought: Oh no, he probably just wanted to get in his own car and was wrongfully harassed by the police for it. That you called the police to solve the problem for you, was a very smart move. :smt023

Even I feel uneasy when I have to deal with authorities who are in a position to exercise their despotic power over me. That you feel even more nervous around them is understandable considering the many cases of police brutality against blacks.

I get the same kinds of feelings when the police come around. I don't really like them other than the fact they protect(somewhat).

I hate getting tickets and I think it's corrupt how some cops will let a friend off the hook from getting a citation or going to jail. Yet, in the same day, he/she will give someone who they don't know a ticket/citation for violating the same laws. Just my 2 cents.

 

This actually wasn't even my first run in with the cops. My first run in with the cops came when i was riding my bike! Can you believe that?? I was riding my bike around the campus (a lot of students just choose to ride their bikes around the campus instead of trying to look for nonexistent parking spaces) and the cops actually flashed their lights, and pulled me over....WHILE I'M RIDING A BIKE!! LOL It was the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. They said that i needed to put some lights on my bike, but c'mon, nobody on campus has lights on their bikes. I've seen cops do nothing when white students are doing donuts in the middle of the street with their cars, but i get the third degree for not having bicycle lights. :roll: They gave me a citation and a warning, and let me go. It was so embarrassing because there were students around watching the whole thing. :smt011

i think your fear is justified and makes alot of sense...i get the same feeling when im around cops.

But seriously, whilst i do not have that rational fear of the police, i do not criticize other black folks when they echo anti-police sentiments. Many of my friends are fucking scared of the cops and they're really, really scared of them. In fact, sometimes i often wonder what blacks fear more; terrorism or 5 0. I'd be tempted to say the latter.

Now here in Florida, there is a lot of police brutality than is usually mentioned. So, if you're a black man and you drive a nice car, with a white girl in the passenger seat or something along those lines, you had better be very careful. I have been pulled over by the po-po a few times before, here in Florida, in New York and in California. Obviously it was not pleasant but i just stay calm so i don't find myself in a hailstorm of bullets.

So Bry, i understand your legitimate fear of cops as they can be very dangerous at times. If you get a chance, read Michael Moore's book "Stupid White Men And Other Sorry Excuses For The State of The Nation". Go to the end of the chapter "Kill Whitey" and he rather humorously gives more tips to avoid getting roughed up by the boys in blue. My favorite one was when he said put a sticker on your car that says "I Love Hockey". :lol: :lol:

It was the middle of a beautiful summer day, i was making love to my girl, buck nekkid as can be.... then woke up to sirens blaring thru my bedroom window, looked out, and all I could see was a cop with a dog on a leash....

Apparently there was a bank robbery near my place,and the dogs followed the scent tthat trailed right to my back yard,,,to make matters worse, the alleged robber was a young black male, with "braids" and a goatie, well, to my unluckiness i also had braids and a goatie at that point.

The kid apparently dashed thru the block, hid in our yard, and dropped the mask in MY garbage...oh man, was i fucked or what??..

So the cops asked me to get out, saying i was under arrest. Initially i laughed my ass off ,right before giving them the finger and shutting the door. They forced their way in, and the only eye witness was an asian male, who yelled "thats him, he rob us, thats him"..to which the officers jumped on me and a fight broke out.

while fighting 3 of the officers,I could hear the other two walking thru MY house, freely might i add, in all my bedrooms which I felt they had no right to do.....

I mean, at least ask and allow my permission, I just watched them walk thru my house, litteraly tearing the place apart. I was amazed, and motionless at the time...so i gave in. I was taken to jail, infront of the entire neighborhood.

While at the station, the officers get a call, and guess what??..they found the REAL robber

WOW, not only did they fuck up the "sexing session" i was having with my girl, but my reputation around the block was fucked for a while.....And these basturds hardly appologized for their actions. So these days whenever i see these same cops, i look them straight in the eye,,,,,lol....they are scared senseless of me....lol

 

You don't need fear. Just a hidden video camera and a lawyer.

 

I understand your feelings about the police. I have had some unpleasant experiences myself. The first time was when I was a teenager. I was coming home from school and a cop stopped me and gave me a ticket for jumping the turnstyle when I didn't do it. My mother went to transit court with me and had the charges thrown out when the Judge heard my statement and the cop didn't appear at all.

The 2nd time was in 1994 while I was walking to see The Crow. 2 police cars stopped me where I was walking and had some cops point their guns at me. They were looking for a suspect that fit my description and checked to see if they had the man. They let me go and I went to the movies afterwards. A year later, I came from working out and 2 cops stopped me and told me to lay on the ground. One of them put a gun near my head and asked if I was an immigrant. I told them I am an american then they checked my id to confirm my story. They let me go and I went home scared.

In 1997, I went to the store for my mother and the cops stopped me in front of my apartment. They came due to a disturbance somewhere near my home and wanted to know if I lived there. I walked to my apartment and when they saw my mother, they immediately left me alone. My mother saw them too and after they left, hugged me.


And just recently, I was stopped by the police. They were looking for the suspect who raped and tortured a Columbia University student that was eventually caught. The police was looking for him in my neighborhood. It was tense those past several days and returned to normal when the suspect was arrested.

I can relate what you are going through. I have had those experiences, I will not let them stop me. Yes this is a racist society that views Black men negatively, I will allow that to hinder me as a man. :x

 

they should definitely be taken to court and reprimanded for that one BlackMaster! lol :lol:

 

After watching a documentary on the history channel today about the Ku Klux Klan, it got me thinking about what someone once told me in relation to the police. They said that the Klansman, instead of wearing the white sheets and robes, are now wearing police badges instead. Does anyone agree with that analogy in relation to the police?? After thinking about it, that could explain why there is so much police brutality against blacks. It seems that the Klansman are still terrorizing black people, but in a subtly different way now.

The Irish came to the US in the 1850s. They lived in poor neighboorhoods in NYC and Boston. Life was difficult, signs on store fronts said HELP WANTED - NO IRISH NEED APPLY. What they did next surprised most. They took over the police force. They were tired of being beaten down and kicked in the gutter.

Now to today - I live near NYC. How I wish the police force was dominated by blacks and hispanics. Take the bull by the horns and turn this around. Would you feel uncomfortable if a black cop approached you over a white cop? My guess is not.

 

I would definitely feel "less" uncomfortable, but i don't think i could ever feel "totally" comfortable around any cops. but a black cop would be a little better i think. i hate to say it, but i would probably trust him a little more over a white cop.
