And i want you all to enjoy the moment with me because this is without any doubt, the biggest thing that has happened to me.

Yesterday, my fiancee just broke the news to me that she is pregnant, with twins. Last night, i went to see the Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls game at the Arena when my fiancee sent me a text message telling me to come straight home after the game because she had news that would shock me. I wondered what it was and first wanted to ignore it and go to my boy's crib but something pushed me to go.

The thing is, she'd been dropping clues for the past few days but i was just not paying attention. She was reading this book of baby names and was watching "She's Having A Baby" sometime last week. Plus, she's been unable to sleep for a long time and has been complaining of migraines, throwing up in the process.

Anyway, when i came into the house, she gave me a note to read and when i did, it read, "Congratulations, your wife-to-be is pregnant with twins". I couldn't even believe it. I've been raving ever since. I haven't been able to sleep or do anything for that matter because i've just been too anxious. This is the biggest thing to happen to me and my life is going to change for good.

I have not told my parents (or her parents) but i'm definite they'd be just as thrilled when they find out.

Now all i hope for is a safe delivery (even though it's a long time away) and then talks of marriage would proceed.

How far along is she? Really pleased for you, I'm sure you'll enjoy being a father - once you get used to the sleepless nights...

Yeah, i knew that Yorubas have the highest twin rate. Apparently, it's because yams in our diet because yams contain phytoestrogen that increase the chances of having twins.

According to the doctor, she's eight weeks pregnant and in about the 17th week, we can find out their genders.

I really am psyched about the whole fatherhood thing but don't tell me all about the sleepless nights thing :lol: :lol: :lol:; i already have an idea. Since my fiancée hasn’t been able to sleep for a long time, I’ve had to be half asleep just to make sure she’s been okay, so I really wanna enjoy my sleep for as long as I can. :lol:

When I went for my 12 week scans, the thing I was dreading more than anything was being told it was twins! I suppose it's one way of knocking out two babies at once, but I can't imagine what a strain it is on your body, as 1 baby is enough!

To be honest Cris, I wouldn't want to scare you by telling you what my pregnancy was like! No complications as such and I had a straight forward labour with no pain relief. But I'm still suffering due to problems with the last pregnancy and it's now worse with this pregnancy - I'm almost 20 weeks and will find out the gender on Friday!

I seriously wish her abetter time than I had. Buy her some fancy massage oil - make sure it's safe for pregnancy though. And be gentle with her and develop a thick skin too. Iffy is irritating at the best of times, but now I'm pregnant again, he annoys me more than usual. Don't take it personally if some of your old "moves" make her skin crawl or if she cries over nothing.

Thanks so much for the support, guys. I really appreciate it. It really hasn't set in yet that i'm going to be a father really soon. We haven't even told anybody yet that Eva is expecting but i'll be turning 24 next week and my parents would be coming here to Florida, i'll let the cat outta the bag then.

Also i'm enjoying my last few weeks here until a while because as you guys might already imagine, i'm going to be a very busy son of a gun. My fiancee is going to take her maternity leave as soon as the doc says so and the bills have got to be paid. On the other hand, i've got to take good care of Eva as much as i can. I've been doing so since she got informed and as you ladies might know, it gets tougher as the weeks go by.

BTW, i already have the names i'd give to the twins but i wanna be sure their genders before confirming. I know, it seems too soon but that's because i have in the past thought of the names i'd give my children. But i've got to wait till the ultrasound (God, i hope that is what it is). :lol:

 

We named our Pikin before she was born, so the 20 week ultrasound was a special moment. Some people prefer to wait, but I found it helped me bond with Imade, by giving her a name and being able to see her as a real person growing inside me.

I didn't know you were only 23 - twins at 24, wow!

Yeah, i know 24 seems a bit young but the thing is Eva's 26 and isn't getting any younger. :lol: Plus i have my life going pretty much in the best possible way i can. I've got a well paid job and so does Eva. We had been making marriage plans anyway; we initially planned to get married in the summer of '08 and that might change or stay, it really depends.We're not really looking into buying property yet until we get married and settle down. Plus, after a while, you get tired of messing around (which i have done a lot) and just wanna be committed. As you guys might have figured out, i come from a very strict African background and in our culture, late marriage and childbirth(especially in the Yoruba culture) is frowned upon.

Besides, after this, i personally want only one more child but as you know, the wifey has the final say. If she says yes, that'd be great but if she doesn't, guess we'd have to stick with the twins.

Twin births do often happen earlier, but in most cases it is because the labour has been induced, due to fears of the placenta not being able to maintain 2 babies efficiently. Many twins are induced or born to c-section around 36/37 weeks, instead of the standard 40 week pregnancy.

Will you be picking Yoruba names? If ours is another girl, it's be another Bini name, but if it's a boy then it'll be an Ika/Ibo name. Iffy swears it's a boy as his cousin Godwin, who is a pastor, told him so!

Yeah right, Pastors always know everything. It always works out that God tells them first. j/k. :lol: :lol: :lol:. I will definitely be picking Yoruba names - it's almost unheard of for a Yoruba man not to name his kids traditionally. But m parents will be doing that because in ou tradition, parents or grandparents pick the first Yoruba names for kids and both grandparents are deceased so my dad would pick it. Obviously, i'd give them ones i like too.
